@Lilacsunflowers Cillian is a top ten name in Ireland. Ireland is an English speaking country, and they don't seem to have an issue with it, in fact it has flown up the charts as people like it so much. It's also popular over there spelled Killian. You might not like it, but it works perfectly well over here if people are a bit less close minded.

Killian unfortunately doesn't travel well into English speaking countries!

It's fine in German or French as Kill has no meaning, but in English it has a terrible meaning Shock

The entiire country of Ireland speaks English and manage cope with every fifth town starting with the sound kill... Kildare, Kilkenny, Kill, Killcullen, Kilmacthomas...

JaneJeffer · 06/10/2022 15:50

And all those Kil place names were anglicised by, you know, English people. Fancy that.

mathanxiety · 06/10/2022 16:47

Killian is a perfectly fine anglicisation and germanisation of Cillian.

It's spelled Killian and Kilian in Germany, where St Killian worked as a missionary (around Wurzburg, in present day northern Bavaria). He is also venerated in the Eastern Orthodox Church, feast day 9 July.

MrsSkylerWhite · 06/10/2022 16:53
