What class do you associate Alfie with?

Archibald is an out and out hideous name.

I expect the person to have a full name e.g. Alfred, Albert, Archibald.

I don't, they're far worse than the short versions. Who wants to be called archibald?????

Different people, different tastes.

No child I'm closely related to has a diminutive as a first name even though they are called it.

(Then again none are called Alfred, Albert or Archibald.)

Me too. I'd always prefer to give the full name rather than a cutesy nickname.

And Oscar.

Yes, mostly. But why do you care?

@Cheeselog missed the point of the thread but are you aware many bricklayers earn more than many lawyers? 😂

But money isn’t necessarily related to class?

SeanMean · 06/09/2022 19:38

Yes it is.

Imissmoominmama · 06/09/2022 19:38

Alfie Boe comes from a very working class seaside town/fishing port. He will likely have been named after a relative.

Lilacsunflowers · 06/09/2022 21:15

His real name is Alfred Giovanni Roncalli Boe

Yes it is.

Not in the UK.

A footballer who is working class can have more wealth than a member of the aristocracy, who is upper class.

Even the modern social classes that were designed a few years ago used culture and social capital as a large indicator of class.

Yes, I am aware of that. It doesn’t stop them from being working class. You can be middle class in genteel poverty or a working class millionaire. It’s not (purely) about money.

VatofTea · 07/09/2022 10:59

I think it's a crusty hippie name
