Is this a name??

I am pregnant with DS3, I really like the name Wilf, but can't find it in a baby name book anywhere. I struggle with boys names as a 3rd child was always only a dream. Does anyone know of anyone called that and is that the correct spelling??

Niceglasses wants to go for Win, short for Edwin? Surely Ed is short for Edwin? And Win is short for Winifred, which although ends is -fred is actually a girls name. Actually it's a womans' name. An old, old woman.

My Grandad was called Wilf - I think its a fab name but agree with the others who said call him Wilfred so he has a choice.

Wow can't get over the number of replies!, thanks for all the comments, I sort of like Wilfred and hadn't thought of being able to take Fred as well, we love Freddie but my surname begins with a F so seems a bit of a mouthful!

My other boys don't have one of the more popular names but eldest is still one of two in the reception year of 60 so really want something different but not OTT.

Wow, how intolerant and dictatorial people get on these threads! "please don't call your baby this", "please register him as" - that's rather a departure from just offering your opinion on the name

Call your baby Mooncheese if it's what floats your boat. I think Wilf is quite cure though.

I like it but personally I'd go for Wilfred and then you (or he) can choose to use Wilf or Freddie or Wilfred.

I have a Wilfred!!!! What a fantastic name!!!!!! It means bringer of peace. Not that I have had much for the past 11 years! Hermione Norris the actress called her son Wilf too!!! As I said a Fabulous name!!

For what it's worth I think Wilf is not a nice name AT ALL. But it's your child......

And FWIW it's worth, I think it is a super-ace name. I also like Otto.

Well I know a Win and his name is deffo Edwin and hes deffo a boy. There is also Win Butler of Arcade Fire fame. I don't think there are any rules and regs about what you can shorten your name to......

I think it is lovely. I'd go for Wilfred as the full name so that he has the option of Wilf of Fred (also a great name).
