Has Evie declined in popularity?

Evieisanicename · 09/08/2022 19:30

Or is it still very popular? There was a point between 2008-2012 when it felt as though every other little girl was named Evie, but I haven’t heard it for a while.

Sat on the beach today. Both families either side of us had a flipping Evie! Couldn’t believe it.

gemma1993 · 14/08/2022 13:18

I know two under 5s and regularly hear it when I’m out with my kids. It’s everywhere.

squishee · 14/08/2022 13:35

Was it ever popular? Reminds me of V for Vendetta.

MsTSwift · 14/08/2022 13:47

yes insanely popular has been for years and new parents still using it!

CharlieBoo · 14/08/2022 14:12

@MsTSwift same here but it’s lily! lily’s everywhere..

Euridicefortuna · 14/08/2022 14:19

I have only met 4 other Evelyn's in my entire life. I am in my 30's named after a grandparent and they would be 5-7 years old accept for the 90 year old.I would like to thank all the parents that have called their girls Evelyn, finally after 30 years I have a tea cup, dummy, tree decoration and a sippy cup with my name on it.I know the items are not age appropriate but I was so excited!!

I'm Evvie by the way never Evey (unless at work ,they can't get their heads around Evvie and yes they are both spelt Evie as Evvie looks silly) but if my mum is in earshot only ever Evelyn.I only ever introduce myself as Evelyn only give Evvie if they insist on shortening it ,which they always do.

PoleFairy · 14/08/2022 14:25

Friend of mine just had an Evie this year and that was Evie on birth cert.

I know Evelyn, Evangeline, Eve, Evelina as well who will all no doubt become Evies in time.

BambinoBlue · 14/08/2022 14:25

Nah, it's still insanely popular, along with Lily/Lilly.

I work as a registrar!

ratussbaguss · 14/08/2022 17:47

No way. It's popular as ever, which is extremely

pinklavenders · 14/08/2022 17:54

It will start to sound very dated soon!

MsTSwift · 14/08/2022 17:59

I do find it intriguing that the minority flock to the same few names. Evie / Evelyn / Lily etc are perfectly nice but so are lots of other underused names they are not so amazing to warrant the insane popularity of them!

MsTSwift · 14/08/2022 18:00

Majority not minority

pinklavenders · 14/08/2022 18:01

I agree - they are soo overused and dull

LillethCrane · 14/08/2022 18:06

My Eldest dd was born in 2005 and I called her Evie as I’ve always loved the name since The House of Elliott (TV show). Unfortunately I didn’t realise how popular it was, as I didn’t know any young children at the time!

I tried to give my next three children less popular, but still old-fashioned names. They’ve all become more popular in recent years too. Never mind!

Madwife123 · 14/08/2022 18:14

My Evie is 9 now. She’s one of 4 Evie’s in her class! I didn’t name her (she’s a foster child) but it’s so so overused! I haven’t heard any baby Evie’s for a while, and I’m a midwife so hear lots of new baby names.

MsTSwift · 14/08/2022 22:03

I don’t mean to criticise it’s a perfectly nice name but if popularity bothers you - avoid!

SNWannabe · 14/08/2022 22:17

Didn’t realise it was as popular as it is when we named our dd evie in 2008. In Scotland is wasn’t as popular I don’t think.

SmokyQuartz · 14/08/2022 22:40

I have 4 children ages ranging from 3 to 16 and there’s never been an Evie in any of their schools/clubs/classes! The only one I’ve heard of is an old friend from my primary school step daughter.

We live in Wales so might not have taken off here.

PrinceHaz · 13/04/2023 09:35

I know an Evie Mae.

DuchessOfSausage · 13/04/2023 10:56

@Evieisanicename , in itself, it is getting less popular, but Evelyn, Eva, Ava and Ivy are very popular.
An Evie might be Evelyn, Eve, Evangeline or something on her BC and sites liked darkgreener won't reflect that.

I have a 5 year old Evie. I don't know another personally but do know of a few x

ThomasinaLivesHere · 13/04/2023 12:48

Like others say there are multiple names with this nickname so it’s hard to know completely but yes I’d avoid if popularity annoys you.

Also even if passed its peak that can be a negative. Although less likely to be in a class with others with same name it can be annoying to have a name associated with an older generation to you.

Skybluepinky · 13/04/2023 13:07

Still very popular.

springhas · 13/04/2023 22:35

My 21 year old was going to be an Evie. I still love it and have come across a few, but not loads. I absolutely hate Evelyn, Evangeline or names like that so he would have been Evie as a full name.

Sadiegirl87 · 13/04/2023 22:45

Might depend on where you live, where I am I'd say it's still very popular, top 10 in the recent 2022 baby name statistics saying that I've only met two in day to day life both under 5
