What are your thoughts on Guy? What other names do you associate it with?

Thanks!

Like it.

Elsewhere where it has far less of that association it's a lovely name.

The rhymes-with-buy version has a different association in the US, where it's kind of the Frat Boy version of dude or bro. "Guy, guy, guy, guy, please like my video, guy." "Hey, guy? Can I get a light?" "I dunno guy, I think she's just not that into you."

The rhymes-with-bee version is fine, though.

Soundwise, I'd lump it with Clay, Gray, Jay, Kai, Ray, Roy, Trey, Troy.
Otherwise, maybe Blaise, Charles, Felix, Gabriel, Henry, Jules, Miles, Louis, Piers, Richard.

I like it

I think I would like it more if it wasn't for the word "guy" i.e. an informal term for man.

In the UK I wouldn't, with all the "burning the guy" that goes in around England. I can just imagine kids shouting "burn Guy on the bonfire!"

Elsewhere where it has far less of that association it's a lovely name.

Eh Confused

Talk about tenuous

I love it and it would have been a contender for my son had it not sounded ridiculous with my surname.

It’s a bit like Miles. Strong, solid ‘handsome’ classic names. Although they really don’t suit babies!

Bloke or Dude for middle names?

TemperTrap · 17/07/2022 18:35

I've known a few Guys. One of them was the sweetest and kindest man but the rest have been braying wankers who do too much coke and talk loudly about their money and their cars.

ChristmasJumpers · 17/07/2022 22:45

I work with a Guy and it always feels like more of a description than I name. I can't get used to saying it when I speak to him 😵‍💫

ChagSameachDoreen · 17/07/2022 23:56

Not a fan. It's like calling a child Bloke or Fellow.
