What are your thoughts on Guy? What other names do you associate it with?

Thanks!

I love it!
Sadly ds was born on 5th November and it was way too cheesy!!

Wellthatsjustswell · 17/07/2022 09:50

I love it too.

BogStandard · 17/07/2022 09:52

I like it! I know someone with 2 sons called Guy and Hugo.

Cloud16 · 17/07/2022 09:55

I like it. Bit different but not unheard of.

stormelf · 17/07/2022 09:56

I really like it

pinklavenders · 17/07/2022 11:11

Refreshing change from all the cutesy Alfies and Archies

DuneFan · 17/07/2022 11:14

Love this name. It's strong and simple.

I have a John and dc2 would have been Guy or Paul if she hadn't been a girl.

It's never been particularly fashionable so I feel it won't particularly date either.

ofwarren · 17/07/2022 11:15

I really really dislike it, sorry

Squashedraddish · 17/07/2022 11:16

I know a Guy born on 5th nov. I am not a fan of it sorry

MarthanotMarfa · 17/07/2022 11:16

If I’d had another boy, he would have been Guy. I’m jealous!

KylieCharlene · 17/07/2022 11:18

I think it's a great name
I would associate a name like Luke with Guy.

MolkosTeenageAngst · 17/07/2022 11:19

I don’t like it at all. I looked after a baby called Guy some years ago and I just couldn’t get my head around it on him, really didn’t suit a baby at all. I think because ‘guy’ is a slightly negative way of describing an unknown man (eg: ‘some old guy at the bus stop just flashed me!’) it felt both impersonal and a bit negative to be using it as a name. I also dislike that there’s no alternative nickname that can be used for it, although I appreciate for some that could be a positive.

ClaryFairchild · 17/07/2022 11:20

In the UK I wouldn't, with all the "burning the guy" that goes in around England. I can just imagine kids shouting "burn Guy on the bonfire!"

Elsewhere where it has far less of that association it's a lovely name.

Amdone123 · 17/07/2022 11:21

I like it. My ds was due on the 5th November so I was having it. He was 2 weeks late, so I went with something else.

KurriKawari · 17/07/2022 11:24

Nope.

Ontomatopea · 17/07/2022 11:25

Nice.

FlissyPaps · 17/07/2022 11:58

Associate it with Guy Fawkes ….

Oh giveover.

soundofsilver · 17/07/2022 12:07

The two Guys I know are both lovely.

AdaColeman · 17/07/2022 12:08

I love it, I also like Giles.

userlotsanumbers · 17/07/2022 12:12

Immediate association was with Guy of Gisbourne, but yeah, I loved Robin of Sherwood, so that's why. It's more nowadays been subsumed into a word for random man / random group of people, if you want that association?

WhileMyGuitarGentlyWeeps · 17/07/2022 12:13

It's a no from me sorry @dumptrucksandcranes It's a bit like calling him Buddy or Chuck.. Just a big fat NO!

GMH1974 · 17/07/2022 12:13

@userlotsanumbers Yep, the Guy of Gisbournre association for me too. Kind of has a nice ring to it

SunnieShine · 17/07/2022 12:21

I like it.
