Harper or Skye

Hi there.

looking at a girls name of Harper or Skye

Harper Rai
Skylar Rai (but would be known as Skye)

family hate the name Skye but I don’t!

Not worried so much if a name is popular or not etc

Im quite a bohemian person 🤪

I like Ray spelled like that. I know a little girl called 'Sunny' which I think is a cool girl version of Sonny (but not with Ray as second name!). I love the name Starr. I know a Willow, River and a Pixie, all girls (Bohemian names I think). Also a Rayna. I like 'Lark' as a middle name. Just a few other ideas.

Rai is an awful middle name that when put with any name (even a nice first name) screams chav.
Like PP Paw Patrol is my first thought when i think of Skye, although i dont dislike the name. Harper (without Rai) is fine

I have nothing against the names Skye and Harper but with the middle name Rai you'll be forever correcting others who pronounce it "Rye"

Why would you choose those names if you're bohemian?
They are associated with a very different image.

If I was going for a more bohemian name I'd go with River. River's can be gentle and soothing but also powerful, tumultuous and life giving and taking.

One of the rivers on the isle of Sky is the Talisker...Tali for short? (I'm kind of joking on that one ). But definitely go with a name you love and not necessarily one that gets MN approval otherwise we'd be overrun with Arlos and Arrabellas

I would go back to the drawing board with all of those names.

Skye is ok, Harper is better. Skylar and Rai are both awful. To me Rai reads as Rye as well.

Not sure why people are saying Rae is chavvy (I hate the word chavvy), I think it's classic. A bit Star Wars maybe but 🤷‍♀️. DH has a cousin called Leia and it suits her. My mum's middle name was Rae, born in 1952.

Prefer Harper. Know alot of new baby Harpers atm it seems to be the In name!

I think Harper is lovely. I know 2 who are from 'old school money' families, and they are definitely not chavvy.

Pick a name you like and it will be perfect for you child.

This is one of the least chavvy names.and to be judgemental back I'd say it a certain group of people that would disagree or think it's chavvy 🙄aand poor Barnaby would faint if sky picked him to play with.
And I think you clearly like sky better.and eau is a beautiful name.and with your sky's the limit I think your little soaring ray of sunshine goes right on theme.
Go with what u like.you will bring her up to be the best of girls.not(chavvy) I assume.so her name will fit whoever she is just perfect.i see barrister Skye rai winning the Qc award. Or Skye rai running a dolphin retreat in the Bahamas.she might struggle with mental health not be able to dress and live at home forever,she might go on to make a rocket for NASA.who knows.is she loved.cared for.given the best family you can.then she'll be grand.

Skye isn't too bad but Skylar is awful. Not keen on Harper - it's fine as a surname, as is Rae, but Harper Rae Surname sounds like a firm of accountants

I'd check the surname if using Skye. There's a famous skateboarder whose name seems a bit ridiculous, or like the colour of heavily polluted atmosphere

Neither are 'bohemian names to me', the opposite really.

I like Skye, associate it with the beautiful island, but really dislike Skylar.

Harper is ok, not my style but if you love it, go for it.

Ray is better than Rai but just a bit boring - again, not bohemian in the slightest. It just sounds like a filler along with all the Mays, Maes, Raes, Roses, Graces etc. With either Harper or Skye so many names would work well as middle names as neither end in 'a' or 'ie/y' as so many girls names do.

My two daughters are called Harper and Skylar 'Skye'. Couldn't look back now. Be warned though you'll get old people confused at the names and younger people thinking you're die hard Beckham fans. GL

Ah that’s lovely. For what it’s worth I think Skye is pretty and the nicer of the two. Harper is nice but so overused at the moment and probably has been since the Beckham’s had their Harper.

How many syllables will baby’s surname be? I guess that will help us with suggestions of middle names.

Skye. It's always on and off our list because I can't really make up my mind but I like it a lot. Skylar is a name my husband likes but I find it way too trendy.

Harper - this is way too popular, trendy and associated with a major celebrity's child so I would stay away from it. I think it will sound dated soon and doesn't really have a classy image.

Skye - this is pretty. Isle of Skye. Natural. I sometimes find it a bit 2000s dated but not overly so.

Skylar - Skye is better. I would strongly recommend just using Skye because I also think that Skylar will date more heavily and it's associated with a TV character. I do imagine a Skylar to be friendly and nice, though.

Skye but with a different middle name. Rai looks very trendy. Ray is better. Maybe Skye Raya?
