Three week old- no name - help!

Help choosing baby name please!

Baby girl. Now three weeks old... no name!

Dad is Welsh. Mum is Irish. We'd like something reflective of our heritage (so an Irish, Welsh or Celtic name) but not so much that the spelling is wild or that there is huge difficult to pronounce.

Any ideas?!

What about Nia? I've always thought it's nicer than Mia and it's the Welsh version of the Irish name Niamh so it's a nod to both your heritage & your husband's.

It's also Swaheli and a short form of Georgina.

Nina is also nice. Not quiet Nanci but might work too.

Friends DD is Bethan Grace?

CaffiSaliMali · 12/07/2022 11:35

I would push for your heritage to be honoured this time OP.

Bear in mind DD may wonder why her sister has a name reflecting her heritage but she doesn't. 1 Irish name and 1 Welsh name seems fair. Grace is nice but it's a bit bland next to Maeve. I think I'd feel I had drawn the short straw if my sister had a less common name reflecting part of our heritage and I had a more popular name with no cultural ties.

Nia
Mari/Mair/Meira
Cadi
Catrin
Efa
Mali
Mabli
Ffion
Elin
Eirlys
Alys
Eira
Aneira
Anwen
Tesni
Seren
Gwen
Eleri/Teleri/Meleri

Lots of options.

CaffiSaliMali · 12/07/2022 11:42

You could also use Haf as a first name OP? Cerys, Carys and Enfys are also names I forgot to add to my list.

My top four are Alys, Eira, Mari and Tesni.

@prettybird - I know a Lowri in England and people tend to mispronounce it as Lowry. They also misspell it as Lowry or Lowrie.

I think a lot of Welsh names carry that risk though. My name, my Mam's name and my cousin's name all get misspelled.

Shauna sounda nice.

uncomfortablydumb53 · 12/07/2022 16:45

Ah Forgot to add Ffion.. I love it

VickerishAllsort · 12/07/2022 21:19

Would Carys work as a compromise?
It sounds quite similar to Grace so might please your DH.
And do remind him that the opinion of the person who carried and birthed the baby should take precedence 😁

GogLais · 14/07/2022 17:29

Catrin is nicer than Carys.
