Thanks for all the opinions on my other thread 😄
Dh and I have continued to ponder and have decided Susan is no longer on our list, but we have added a couple of others that we are now considering. So our updated list is
Shirley (my favourite for years)
Bernadette (Bernie or Ettie for nn)
Marjorie
Magnolia

Dh likes nn Madge for Marjorie 😄

Susan. The others are much worse.

yikesanotherbooboo · 02/07/2022 10:21

I liked Susan!!
Marjorie is pretty , not sure about the Madge nn.

ShirleyPhallus · 02/07/2022 10:22

I highly approve of Shirley and find some of the comments on this thread offensive tbh

pedropony76 · 02/07/2022 10:23

Is this a joke?

pedropony76 · 02/07/2022 10:24

How can you look at a newborn baby and go ‘yeah, we want to name her Shirley’ how cruel

Purplecatshopaholic · 02/07/2022 10:32

Shirley? Really? Hmm, sorry op, assuming you are serious, I don’t like any of them - Marjorie is doubly terrible, and Magnolia is a paint…

Less cruel than some of the horrendous Gracie-May-Rae names on here

MissMaple82 · 02/07/2022 10:39

Wow

MissMaple82 · 02/07/2022 10:40

Are you an 80 year old pregnant woman by any chance?

Now now..

Staynow · 02/07/2022 10:44

They are all awful IMO, really dated and not in an 'about to come back into fashion' way. I do like a pp's suggestion of Audrey though at least that has connotations of Audrey Hepburn. Magnolia might be a lovely tree but it's also the colour of paint people use in rentals because it's cheap and inoffensive.

AWobABobBob · 02/07/2022 10:47

Shirley? Shirley not...

Sorry couldn't help myself. Bernadette is the most tolerable out of your list.

CPL593H · 02/07/2022 10:50

To me, they are very much the names of women who are now late 60s/70s. There is nothing wrong with this of course, but as they are too recent to have come back in to fashion yet it will raise eyebrows.

Please not Magnolia, though.

MrsBungle · 02/07/2022 10:51

Bernadette at a push - Bernie is nice. The others are nothing short of horrific. Shirley and Marjorie are truly terrible.

😂 those are also very weird!

Rahrahrahrahannoyed · 02/07/2022 11:11

They are awful. Susan at a push.

KirstenBlest · 02/07/2022 11:50

I like Bernadette. I also like Susan and Janet

17caterpillars1mouse · 02/07/2022 11:56

I quite like Shirley.

I could probably get behind Marjorie as long as your avoiding Marge

I like Magnolia and there is a children's book series called The Princess in black where the main character is called Magnolia as she's pretty cool

DontLikeCoffee · 02/07/2022 12:43

They are the names of all my Mum’s friends.

Primatrying · 02/07/2022 13:35

I love Shirley, as I said on the previous thread. Shirley Jones, Shirley Bassey, Anne Shirley!

I don't mind Bernadette or Marjorie (prefer Bernadette).

Not keen on Magnolia because of the paint, but I wouldn't think anything bad if I met a baby called it.

FlatBottomedGirl · 02/07/2022 14:05

Shirley and Marjory are the prettiest, not keen on Madge though, that's taking oldie names too far. Bernadette is too religious for me but I'm west coast of Scotland so maybe it's less of a thing in other places.

WeeOrcadian · 02/07/2022 14:11

For reals OP?

FolornLawn · 02/07/2022 14:13

Shirley or... LITERALLY ANYTHING ELSE

Cheryl
Jacqueline
Elaine
Sheila
Lindsay
Barbara
Gillian

What about Belinda? You could call her Linda as a NN if you really want something Shirley-esque.

RebeccaCloud9 · 02/07/2022 14:17

Are you giving birth to a 50 year old?

MerryChristmasToYou · 02/07/2022 14:20

@Primatrying , you forgot Shirley Williams

@RebeccaCloud9 , those aren't the names of 50 yr olds, they're the names of 75 yr olds
