I like it

User3568975431146 · 17/06/2022 22:09

My mother was desperate for us to call our son Austin. Not a snowballs chance!

WeasilyPleased · 17/06/2022 22:20

Austin was the notorious bully at school so that really colours my opinion. Sorry OP.

theanswerunknown · 17/06/2022 22:27

The only one I know is really quite obnoxious and unpleasant...know that's not because of his name but it's the first thing I think of when I hear it!!

mizzo · 17/06/2022 22:32

I know one who's Dad is a massive car fan, all DC have car related names.

fallwaygirl · 18/06/2022 09:09

Mixed views on this one then.. I agree with PP that said it sounds happy and upbeat but known and still works for all ages.

I like the spelling Austen too but that's setting them up for a life of misspelling

Following. Love the name. Powers reference would annoy me a little. What have you decided OP?

fallwaygirl · 23/06/2022 11:07

@brookln I haven't.... such a huge decision isn't it! I still love it though! Do you have any other choices?

I like it. There's one in DC1's nursery class - he's a sweet boy and I never think about Austin Powers when I see him!

TheFlis12345 · 23/06/2022 11:19

I really like it. I know a few Austin’s ranging from 3 to 50!

007DoubleOSeven · 23/06/2022 11:20

I like it but I'd spell it Austen

Hellhaven · 23/06/2022 11:22

Is a family name. My brother right back to great, great, great grandfather was called Austin

Love the name, so under used

I can't make my mind up. Today I thought 'no', yesterday I thought 'definitely'.

fallwaygirl · 23/06/2022 12:32

Ah I love the Austen spelling too. Just don't know if it would cause him aggro spelling it that way.

OP posts:
007DoubleOSeven · 23/06/2022 12:56

I think either way you spell it people are going to misspell it at times.

To me and others, the Austen spelling is more natural because I'm more familiar with it than Austin. I suspect many literary types will be the same!

007DoubleOSeven · 23/06/2022 12:57

Also I don't think anyone of a younger generation is going to think Austin Powers!

NewName69 · 23/06/2022 13:07

@fallwaygirl I have name changed for this but Austin is our surname. I often get asked if it’s spelt in or en so I think both spellings must be common.

BiscuitLover3678 · 23/06/2022 14:49

I really like it but I think it’s quite popular in America

mathanxiety · 23/06/2022 18:55

Austin just about cracks the top 100 in the US, at number 96.

The top 20 boy names in the US in 2021 were:
Liam
Noah
Oliver
Elijah
James
William
Benjamin
Lucas
Henry
Theodore
Jack
Levi
Alexander
Jackson
Mateo
Daniel
Michael
Mason
Sebastian
Ethan

So obv nobody in the UK should choose any of these names for a baby boy.

bloominglovelyorange · 24/06/2022 09:36

I love this name
one of my favourites

wibblewobbleball · 24/06/2022 09:41

Love it. I know a little Austin and it really suits him. Lovely name.

brookln · 25/06/2022 19:40

OP I now feel like I can't use the name Austin, given yesterday's events in America ☹️ it just doesn't feel right.
We are back to the drawing board and baby is due soon !

Wait what do you mean?

BE22 · 27/06/2022 14:24

I'm guessing this is to do with the abortion laws?

But Austin is the most liberal part of Texas and doing what they can to mean that they won’t criminalise women for abortion even though it’s technically illegal in that state. It’s a good thing Austin are doing what they can tbh!
but yes Texas a whole is depressing.
