Wesley? But can we have 2 -sley names?

Just had DS3 today and DH and I struggled to pick a name we both liked as we used our 2 favourite names for DS1 and 2.

DS1s name ends in "sley" and the name DH has thrown out there today is Wesley (pronounced as Wes not Wez just FYI). I quite like it but I'm worried it clashes with DS1s name. DHs reasoning is that when we say the kids names, we will say them in order so won't necessarily be saying DS1s name then DS3s name very often, they will be broken up by DS2s short and sweet name which does sound fine in order.

Also, his middle name is potentially Ronald which is my grandads name who recently died. I'm happy to shorten to Ronnie if that sounds better but not sure if it does. Does it go?

What do you think?

Not that keen on Wesley to be honest and I pronounce Wes as Wez whatever your husband says!

lickenchugget · 07/06/2022 19:24

Wesley just reminds me of Wesley and Lesley from the early series of SATC

Kite22 · 07/06/2022 19:28

I think if you are going to pronounce it differently from everyone else, that will create issues - which might, or might not bother you but will probably bother Wesley.

I think it will sound a bit odd - though my mind has gone blank and I can't think of another .....sley name at the moment to say them.

Isn't Wesley Ronald the name of Harry Potter's mate?!

Hahaha!

SullysBabyMama · 07/06/2022 19:37

I don’t think you should name him Wesley because of the rhyming. My son is Elias and his brother by Dad is Tobias and I always think it’s strange they rhyme.

superram · 07/06/2022 19:38

It’s pronounced Wezley, not sure I’d do Wesley, Lesley, Presley.

PotterLottery · 07/06/2022 19:39

Oh Wesley isn't the best 🙈 nobody will call him wes for short it will 100% end up Wez.

Harissa · 07/06/2022 19:39

I'm not sure you'll get Wess-ley from most people. He'll be Wez. And, yes, it is quite similar to RW!

Can you have two Leys? Erm, you can. As grown ups you don't spit out your siblings names with your own very often.

But I guess you'll get comments. Our names are a bit twee together and we do!

420Bruh · 07/06/2022 19:41

😂😂😂

Snoopsnoggysnog · 07/06/2022 19:45

Ron Weasley…
Sorry OP I’m not keen on Wesley and it’s not great with Ronald.
congrats on your new baby

BabyWhatsYourName · 07/06/2022 19:53

I'm not a massive fan so didn't even pick up on the Harry Potter connection 🙈

Ok, seems like there is a reason it's not so popular haha.

I also don't like Wez as a nickname.

Back to the drawing board.

Any other suggestions, criteria is... not too popular but not weird either.

Ronalds a nice name tbh, Ron goes well

ProclivityForPyrotechnics · 07/06/2022 19:54

Could you do Ronald nn Ronnie?

TonyBlairsLover · 07/06/2022 19:54

Makes me think of Reagan. Strong and powerful

BabyWhatsYourName · 07/06/2022 19:56

I quite like Leonard....thoughts? I know Lennie is popular though and that does put me off. But it does sound better with our surname compared to Wesley too.

Obviously won't use the middle name Ronald for that either...we have another deceased grandads name we can use instead.

Can you tell us what your other two are called, or at least one of them to give us an idea of what you class as not weird? Because Wesley is pretty unusual!

BabyWhatsYourName · 07/06/2022 19:59

This is may be a bit outing but I did name change so that's irrelevant really...

DS1 is Kingsley and DS2 is Ezra.

Those are lovely names, OP. I think Leonard/Lennie goes well with those.

hopefulsunshine11 · 07/06/2022 20:02

@BabyWhatsYourName I really like both those names for DS 1 & 2. Koa is nice and short, Lleyton, Harrison, Joss, Preston... just a few I like. We've been looking at names as I am currently pregnant but we have no idea if it's a boy or a girl yet and I just keep looking at names everywhere 🤣🤣. I find boys names easier!

PoleFairy · 07/06/2022 20:03

I like Leonard but Lenny and Leon are popular. Other options with a similar vibe

Ivan
Ivor
Rufus
Ernest
Hamish
Ludo
Magnus
Casper

WaitinginVain · 07/06/2022 20:07

Was going to say I really like Wesley, pronounced either way, but see you've had a change of heart.

Not keen on Leonard/Lennie myself or Ronald either.

Your other DS's names are really nice.

See, I could quite easily name Octuplet girls I reckon 🤣

The worst part is, we have had months and months to decide knowing full well that he was a boy. He's the only one we found out what flavour he would be!
