Wesley? But can we have 2 -sley names?

Just had DS3 today and DH and I struggled to pick a name we both liked as we used our 2 favourite names for DS1 and 2.

DS1s name ends in "sley" and the name DH has thrown out there today is Wesley (pronounced as Wes not Wez just FYI). I quite like it but I'm worried it clashes with DS1s name. DHs reasoning is that when we say the kids names, we will say them in order so won't necessarily be saying DS1s name then DS3s name very often, they will be broken up by DS2s short and sweet name which does sound fine in order.

Also, his middle name is potentially Ronald which is my grandads name who recently died. I'm happy to shorten to Ronnie if that sounds better but not sure if it does. Does it go?

What do you think?

Congratulations!
I don't get this trend for surnames as first names. If you want to name him after Wesley, just call him John.
I'm not keen on Lennie because of Of Mice & Men but I think Leo is nice.

Am I missing something, why would I just call him John? Not naming him after anyone, just like the name Wesley?

Leo is an absolute no.

Of suggestions so far I absolutely love Dexter but DH hates it and said no ages ago, and really like Casper but unfortunately it rhymes with our surname. Like first letter difference rhymes so just similar sound. We did say let's do it for a joke but obviously we won't 🤣

@BabyWhatsYourName John Wesley is a very famous historical figure - he basically created the Methodist church. He's the reason most people today would have ever heard of the name Wesley.

Shedcity · 07/06/2022 20:22

Cannot name your kid Wesley Ronald
wesley is fine. But people will say wezley regardless.

Flamingle18 · 07/06/2022 20:24

Congratulations!
If you're not keen on Wes then I wouldn't go for Wesley as it probably will get shortened.

I like

Would Caspian work?

Neverwrestlewithapig · 07/06/2022 20:29

Wyatt
Amos
Arthur

Flamingle18 · 07/06/2022 20:30

And this depends on whether your relative liked being called Ron instead of Ronald but another option is to incorporate Ron into first name like Aaron or Byron which leaves middle name free for other relatives name!

Undertheoldlindentree · 07/06/2022 20:37

Ambrose is a lovely suggestion. How about Duncan or Angus?

KeyErro · 07/06/2022 20:42

I think they're nice names, but for me Wesley is too close to Ezra, you'd trip over the names if you were yelling at them😆
I think Leonard would round out the names well.

PoleFairy · 08/06/2022 22:11

I met a Caston once? Alternative to Casper?
Or is there any cool maiden names in your family? I know a Maitland and a Charter who got their names that way

Spohn · 08/06/2022 22:27

You other kids names are quite ‘cool’, so Leonard, Ronald or Wesley absolutely do not go with your other twos names.

Sebastian?
Nathan?

ThisIsGroundControl · 08/06/2022 22:33

Westley, West is a better nn than Wes.

Like Seth, Cooper amd Caspian with your other names.

ThisIsGroundControl · 08/06/2022 22:33

And Elias

Haus1234 · 08/06/2022 22:35

How about …

Cameron
Hamish
Aidan
Aaron
Benedict
Alasdair

frostytimes · 08/06/2022 23:05

I really like Wesley 🤷‍♀️

Undertheoldlindentree · 08/06/2022 23:36

Cassian?

ChagSameachDoreen · 09/06/2022 00:13

Wesley is the name of a chav estate agent in a shiny grey suit who mis-uses the words myself and yourself.

alphons · 09/06/2022 00:35

Ansel?
Otis?
Barnabus/ Barnaby?
Declan?

You’ve got an -ee and an -ah ending already. I think you need something different, personally.

Good strong choices so far. Assuming, with Ezra, that you’re Jewish? Declan might not work so well.

mathanxiety · 09/06/2022 04:40

Congratulations!

Wesley pronounced Wes not Wez is not going to fly. Everyone is going to call him Wez.

Suggestions:

Kingsley, Ezra and

Dexter
Quentin
Caspar
Austin

Lenny is nice - I personally only know of one (aged 8 in Australia) so I don't think it's that commonly used. Whereas I know several Ezras.

Suggestions:
Lawrence (Lawrie)
Saul
Cass
Fergus/Fergal
Abel

Libre2 · 09/06/2022 12:38

I came across as Jessian once which I absolutely loved. As far as I can tell it’s a made up name but I think it’s wonderful. Would that work for you?! That or Jotham, which I also love - and so wish we’d used for DS - which is old, biblical.
