Thoughts on list of boys names

Expecting a baby boy and really struggling on names. I like really traditional names and totally don’t care if they’re popular whereas my partner wants something unusual but not weird. He only likes Gabriel (his fave) or Lawrence off the list below, which I like but prefer the others! Main problem with Gabriel is that I really don’t like ‘Gabe’ but would want to use a nickname as three syllables seems a bit formal for a baby 😊 I like Lawrence and love Laurie but not sure if it’s a bit posh?

Just wanted to get some thoughts and of course suggestions too!

If you don't want Gabe I'd avoid Gabriel.
I love Lawrence and Laurie and don't think it's posh. It's my favourite on the list.
Unfortunately if your husband doesn't like the others that's kind of the end for them.

Benjamin is my favourite from your list. Don't like Gabriel and Laurie seems a bit wet.

Solomon or Nathaniel might be alternatives for Gabriel.

I like all of them! Most were on my list for my DS.

Laurie is probably my favourite and the most unusual. I really like it.

I’m not keen on Jack. It’s a bit laddish compared to the others, which are mostly biblical and dignified.

They’re all lovely - my least favourite is Gabriel though. Like you I don’t like Gabe; and I can’t say it in my head without thinking “the angel Gabriel” and imagining a school nativity.

I’ve always preferred Laurence to Lawrence, not sure why - just looks nicer to me.

I have a Joseph and if this new baby was a boy he would have been Laurence/Lawrence. Love it! I think Laurence spelling is a girls name in France? Not sure.
May I also offer to you, the perfect name, Joel.

I love Lawrence and Laurie. Cute for a little boy but a good strong name for a man too.
I like all the names on the list but I suppose you can't choose a name your husband doesn't like.

We’d definitely use Lawrence as the spelling as we spend a lot of time in France so wouldn’t want to saddle him with a feminine spelling.

You’re obviously all a lot nicer than me in thinking that my partner should get to veto names as I just want to choose what I want 😂 Partly because he doesn’t seem to really love anything so I figure I might as well!

I'm not keen on French accent but I do love how they say Benjamin!

Joseph - this is nice and traditional, but not too popular

Lawrence (Laurie) - really quite like this, especially Laurie

I know a toddler Lawrence/Lawrie. I think the Lawrie rather than Laurie spelling works better if you are using the w spelling for the full name.

Also like Joseph and Ben from your list.

If you have French links - Florian, Sebastien, Benoit, Romain?

Like them all apart from Lawrence, because of the association with Mr Llewellyn-Bowen and (although spelt differently) Fox.

Agree with the suggestion of Nathaniel as a possible name.

I've got a Lawrence Joseph (known as Laurie). We also considered Lucas, Alexander and Marcus as well as Benjamin like you.

I like Gabriel and Benjamin. But I'm Spanish so would pronounce Gabriel differently than it's said in English.

I do like Jack and Gabriel. We have a Lawrence in the family, shortened to Lozza or lollipop 😂

He’s now ruled out Lawrence disappointingly when I was really starting to like it! He says I need to ‘open my mind’ which is frankly irritating when he says a flat no to all of my suggestions but finds one he likes and expects us to just go with it. Gah!

Jospeh is actually my all time favourite boys name but I’d also be happy with many of the others suggested here. I just want something nice and simple that will suit him all his life. I don’t care if it’s seen as ‘boring’ (my partner thinks all my suggestions are boring) he’ll be his own person and make the name interesting just by being him!

We still have four months to go luckily but I can imagine it being a case of baby being here and us not having decided which is weird as we decided our daughter’s name really early on and I liked knowing it in advance. Maybe I can get him to agree on a name I like when I’ve just given birth and he’s all like ‘wow I can’t believe you did that call him what you like’ 😂

I love your list. Jack is probably my least favourite, with Joshua and Joseph being joint favourites. Actually, I have nephews with 4 of your names ( all early 30s now).
