Clio as an alternative to cleo came up on another thread I started. It’s really growing on me but how much of a problem would the car thing be? Any clios out there? Or anyone with a dd clio? Any clios you know?

OP posts:

I thought of the muse of history but clearly many think of the car

Well, yes, many, many more will think of the car.

Why would you possibly change it to the car spelling?

Clio was the muse of history. I think it's beautiful.

Clio and Cleo are unrelated names. Clio is an ancient name, the Greek muse of History.

The ancient Greeks got there several thousand years before Renault did!

Smartsub · 22/05/2022 17:01

Not only is it a car name, she'll have her name spelt wrong her whole life

Trinacham · 22/05/2022 20:23

I don't think anyone thinks Renault invented the name and the way it's spelt😂🙄 but obviously it is where it is most known from!

Seems like quite a few on this thread do.

I don’t think the car connection is an issue and I prefer Clio to Cleo. But then I was one of the posters on the other thread suggesting Clio! Might be worth noting that I have next to no interest in cars though, so it really doesn’t take much for me to override a car connection. There have been around ten babies a year called Clio recently, so clearly the name is useable.

Me too. Clio is the muse of history. It wouldn't bother me - and I suspect it's about to get popular as a name, but go with Cleo if it concerns you.

BIL has a DD,.now a teenager, who has a car name. It was a car name then and its a car name now and it will always be a car name. Don't do it.

Something that was originally a name and is now a car, like Mercedes? Or something like Renault?

Whatidisthissummer · 24/05/2022 09:17

@Hadtocomment clea is lovely but sadly doesn’t work with the surname…

Whatidisthissummer · 24/05/2022 09:22

Again thanks all for comments

Titsflyingsouth · 29/05/2022 18:45

I know a Cleo. She's about 10.

Clio is definitely car spelling

sageandbasil · 29/05/2022 21:32

I love the name Cleo but spelt that way. The other way is the car
