For Lottie I'd put Charlotte on the birth certificate. We have a Charlotte.

Not keen on Meredith. At school we had a really strict teacher called Mrs Meredith who was nicknamed mrs Mega Death so that probably skews my perception though!

FourChimneys · 07/05/2022 15:53

My favourite is Julie. I also love Connie but I knew an adorable child with that name so slightly biased.

There are plenty of small Freyas so maybe avoid that one. Melody is my least favourite.

EasyLifer · 07/05/2022 15:54

Love Connie, Juliet, Maeve and Violet, not keen on the rest, sorry.

MargaritasOnMe · 07/05/2022 16:04

Arietta - immediate thought was no but actually quite like it now I've said it a few times.
Connie - quite like this, I've taught a few.
Freya - lovely. Popular but lovely.
Jasmine - love this, really under-used although maybe quite 'Disney' for some people.
Juliet - love this, elegant and classic.
Lottie - not a fan, sorry.
Maeve - it's ok but you have nicer options.
Matilda - love this, if ds2 had been a girl this may well have been his name.
Melody - really like! Different.
Meredith - no really don't like this.
Rosalie - gorgeous, love.
Sylvie - lovely, makes me think of a fairy.
Violet - I can never decide if I like this name. It sounds quite harsh to my ears, but there's nothing really wrong with it.

My top 3 would be Matilda, Sylvie and Melody.

VintageGibbon · 07/05/2022 16:07

Lots of good ones.

I love Freya, Jasmine, Mathilda, Sylvie, Meredith.

I hate Connie - makes me think of con-artists, but that one aside the others are fine.

LadyEloise10 · 07/05/2022 16:08

Freya
Juliet
Rosalie
Are my choices. I don't like the others.

AmandaMirandaPanda · 07/05/2022 16:08

Love Sylvie. Quite like Maeve, Rosalie, and Juliet.

I had the same thought as a few other posters about Freya and Matilda being a bit popular/well used lately.

shreddednips · 07/05/2022 16:11

Arietta- sorry not a fan, sounds too fussy
Connie- quite like
Freya- there are a lot of Freyas around but it's quite a nice name, prefer spelling Freja
Jasmine- like
Juliet- prefer Julia, which would be a strong contender if I ever had a girl
Lottie- too nicknamey if not short for Charlotte IMO, I like Lotte which is similar
Maeve- not a fan
Matilda- I always imagine a Matilda being quite fearsome, so I like it!
Melody- don't like sorry
Meredith- frumpy
Rosalie- prefer Rosanna
Sylvie- neither like nor dislike
Violet- like PP I far prefer Viola

Confusion101 · 07/05/2022 16:12

For Lottie I'd put Charlotte on the birth certificate.

I often wonder why people do this. I'm pregnant at the moment and my number 1 rule is that they will be christened what it is we intend to call them. If you intend to call her Lottie and never use Charlotte, just call her Lottie. I'm a teacher and it is so annoying when calling the roll and children are like "oh sorry I go by <name>" and even worse for the shy kids who don't have the confidence to say it for weeks! 🙈

FWIW I love the name Lottie! 💕

Names from your list I love:
Jasmine, Lottie, Maeve, Meredith, Sylvie

Names I still like but not as much:
Freya, Connie (prefer Bonnie), Juliet, Matilda, Melody, Violet

Such a fab list!! My top ones would be Sylvie or Lottie. Best of Luck with it 😊

RuthW · 07/05/2022 16:56

You asked for it!

Arietta - lovely
Connie - half a name, Constance is nice
Freya - too 90s and dated
Jasmine - too 90s and dated
Juliet - nice, getting popular
Lottie - half a name, Charlotte ok
Maeve - not for me but ok
Matilda - too popular but ok
Melody - lovely but have come across two recently
Meredith - don't like 'th' names, I have one!
Rosalie - lovely
Sylvie- no, Sylvia is lovely
Violet - nice but popular

bakewellbride · 07/05/2022 17:06

@Confusion101 I used to teach too Smile I think it makes sense to give the child the choice but each to their own.

Gazelda · 07/05/2022 17:19

Arietta - don't like, sorry. I don't know why.
Connie - not keen
Freya - not keen.

Jasmine - lovely.
Juliet - lovely
Lottie - prefer Charlotte
Maeve - a bit too plain
Matilda - love
Melody - nice
Meredith - ok
Rosalie - pretty, but maybe a bit too flowery?
Sylvie - fabulous
Violet - Nice

BaaMoon · 07/05/2022 17:22

Jasmine and Juliet are the only two I like sorry.

Hadtocomment · 07/05/2022 17:41

Arietta. Not familiar with this name but I like it. Connie I like and is a bit different.

Violet is on this forum all the time. I like it but maybe because it's always on here feels a bit like it's on a lot of people's lists.

Freya is not my favourite name and Matilda is on here all the time too. Sylvie always pushed here. I'm not keen on it really. Seems like it's trying not to be Sylvia and sounds a bit twee to me. I prefer Sylvia.

Juliet is always favoured on here and it's quite nice but I prefer Julia. Can't help but think as soon as studying English exams teens would take the piss. Rosalie is always pushed on here so feels like the rose name of the moment. Its nice. I think Rosalind is also nice and not mentioned much and I like the Shakespeare character connection. I dislike Meredith and Melody. I knew a not very nice Maeve when I was small. The only one I've met. But like others the name grows on me. Quite like it's plainness and the sound of the word.

Seashor · 07/05/2022 17:44

I don’t like any of them because I don’t like shortened names as given names and I don’t like names that will date people.
Rosalie rhyming slang for cup of tea so a name to be avoided.

Crunchymum · 07/05/2022 17:45

Arietta - don't like at all
Connie - nice but is it short for something?
Freya - a bit dated
Jasmine - really like
Juliet - my favourite
Lottie - only as a nn for Charlotte
Maeve - okay
Matilda - okay
Melody - a bit too frilly for my liking
Meredith - nice
Rosalie - not to my taste but nice enough
Sylvie - nice
Violet - nice

SnottyLottie · 07/05/2022 17:58

Arietta - a little too dreamy for my liking
Connie - dated but vintage, so you might be deemed a trend setter if you use it before it starts to become popular, might be better as a nickname
Freya - strong sounding but dated 00s/10s, it’s still useable but would be incredibly unoriginal
Jasmine - dated 90s but refreshing for a floral name
Juliet - lovely, classic and romantic without being overly frilly
Lottie - I might be biased but I love it 😆would be better as a nickname
Maeve - it’s very elegant and unusual but I predict it’s going to become really popular over the next few years
Matilda - lovely but a bit uninspiring
Melody - all I can think of is the terrible song from that terrible CBeebies programme
Meredith - in theory I love it, strong sounding, not overly popular; but it also reminds me too much of Meredith Kercher and I’m sure it was the name of the girl murdered in ‘What lies beneath’ so it gives me the heebie jeebies!
Rosalie - a bit frilly for my taste but fresher than dull Rose
Sylvie - lovely vintage name, fresh, strong but feminine
Violet - nice enough but overused

Juliet & Sylvie would be my top considerations.

D0lphine · 07/05/2022 18:02

Arietta - fussy
Connie - like
Freya - so common these days
Jasmine - not keen
Juliet - like
Lottie - only as a nickname for Charlotte
Maeve - like
Matilda - a bit geeky
Melody - not very serious. I don't see how she would get on with a serious job.
Meredith - like
Rosalie - twilight flashbacks.
Sylvie - like
Violet - very common and overdone.

DoctorZog · 07/05/2022 19:52

Arietta - bit fussy, like Aria and Etta though
Connie - quite sweet, possibly a bit too nicknamey
Freya - pretty but a bit overdone
Jasmine - pretty but a bit Disney princess
Juliet - classy, but worried about Jules as nn
Lottie - nope, boring and a nn
Maeve - nice
Matilda - nice, but hate Tilly
Melody - horrible
Meredith - meg
Rosalie - pretty, but Rose / Rosa quite popular atm

Don't think you need to tell Mumsnet users to be ruthless when it comes to names😂They're far more brutal than the worst kids in the playground.

LOVE the name Lottie! <3. Our daughter is Lottie and suits her perfectly. We never even considered Charlotte! Names evolve all the time and everyone has opinions, don’t make them correct.

Lovely Lottie all the way 🥰

(also like Connie!)

MsTSwift · 08/05/2022 07:46

My favourite is Sylvia was second choice for dd2 also not come across a single one and have two teen girls myself so not over used.

pinkstripeycat · 08/05/2022 07:59

Sylvie reminds me on my friends 79yr old MIL.
