What do you think of Bellamy for a boy? Is it too out there?

As see bell end isn't a thing is Aus. I still vote no, sorry. Too surnamey

SoggyPaper · 19/04/2022 16:09

Honestly, I think people would find it fairly unremarkable in Australia really.

diceydice · 19/04/2022 16:09

And I must say, I have absolutely no idea who David Bellamy is 😂

@SoggyPaper yeah I do think it's a bit more well known here in Australia rather than the UK maybe.

@diceydice I was joking because they're characters from Upstairs/Downstairs but I guess everyone is too young to remember.

FindMeInTheSunshine · 19/04/2022 16:12

Bellamy is a girl's name to me, having seen the actress Bellamy Young in a couple of things!

Thought you might not, hence my helpful link upthread!
JustPlainKnackered · 19/04/2022 16:12

Totally. He'll get called bellend, don't do it.

Malariahilaria · 19/04/2022 16:21

When I was pregnant and hormonal I had Thor and Zephyr on my list. Thankfully I was dissuaded given the dull suburban existence I live in (if I was a rock star I would have insisted!). David Bellamy and grappling gwapenuts is all I can think of 🤣

Even in England I think the David Bellamy link is quite age restricted

My first association is from the show The 100 - I love it on the show and in real life :)

RuthW · 19/04/2022 22:04

Awful - sorry

Awwlookatmybabyspider · 19/04/2022 23:23

I don't think Bell end as previously mentioned is the worry. After all I've never known any Isabelles to be teased and called "Isabellend" Why would Bellamy be any different. The only thing that I'd find concerning is that its a hybrid of 2 girls names Bell and Amy.

bluebunnyblue · 19/04/2022 23:27

I'm not keen....invites the nickname 'Belly' surely!?

TiptowThroughTheToadstools · 19/04/2022 23:45

I think you should always consider the social implications of a child's name, after all they're stuck with it their whole life. I'd steer clear of Bellamy.

Happenchance · 19/04/2022 15:37

I like the sound but think there's a risk that they will get called Belle or Bellend.

This. It’s weird. He’d abandon it for a random nickname.

How about Barnaby?

Lalliella · 20/04/2022 23:56

Please don’t!

Oh I thought you were referencing Kate Hudson and Matt Bellamy who had a baby together.

Itshothothot · 21/04/2022 17:08

I only know it as a shoe brand.

SophieSoSo · 21/04/2022 17:10

Bellamy is a very rough housing estate near where I live, for that reason it’s a firm no from me.

TheDaydreamBelievers · 23/04/2022 08:36

In Scotland in 30s, no idea who David Bellamy is. But does make me think of Matt Bellamy. That's not necessarily a bad thing

Soubriquet · 23/04/2022 08:38

The 100 fan?

I hated Bellamy in the program. He redeemed himself slightly but not enough to make me like him. Octavia called him Bell a lot and it never sounded wrong.

Maybepossibly22 · 23/04/2022 08:44

Bellamy was on my “I love but probably can’t use” list (after Matt Bellamy from Muse) - I don’t think it’s going to be too our there for an Australian family at all, going by the names of some of my Aussie family members!

AnnUumellmahaye · 23/04/2022 08:45

I don't like it. Sounds wispy like Jeremy, Geoffrey, Bellamy (Sorry to any Jeremy's and Geoffrey's out there. )

MolkosTeenageAngst · 23/04/2022 08:55

I don’t know who David Bellamy is, makes me think of Matt Bellamy from Muse which isn’t a bad association. I do quite like surnames as first names (I have Buckley on my list should I ever have a boy).

I’ve never heard anyone say not to call a child Belle/ Bella etc because they’ll be called Bellend so not sure why it would be such an issue for Bellamy. Anyway if you’re in Australia sounds like that wouldnt be an issue.

I like it and despite being a bit unusual I don’t think it’s too far out there that nobody could spell or say it etc.
