Nickname Roly.

What do you think?

OP posts:

Misreadprob · 31/03/2022 20:25

Roly from bad uncle

Crabwoman · 31/03/2022 20:26

All I can think of is "eyyyyyyy rat-fannnzzz"

But I am nearly 40 so it may only be an issue for those of a certain age.

Blueuggboots · 31/03/2022 20:28

Roland....Roly, from Grange Hill?
And then rat.

Madrenetterhere · 31/03/2022 20:29

Just, no.

Sillybillypoopoomummy · 31/03/2022 20:30

only a certain generation (aka the parents!) will think of Roland Rat. I really like it, I think it is ageless and really like it. I also like Roly.

Nelliephant1 · 31/03/2022 20:31

Sorry no. It should forever be a rats name.

EmpressaurusWitchDoesntBurn · 31/03/2022 20:32

Roland Rat’s best mates were called Kevin & Errol, so if those are the names of your other DCs then yes, definitely!

Crabwoman’s right though, no kids are going to think of that.

RealHousewifeOfEastLondon · 31/03/2022 20:33

I quite like it! But not Roly, that's a cat's name!

PlinkPlankPlunk · 31/03/2022 20:33

Rat rapping - yeeaahh!

Definitely not. I hadn’t thought about it being similar to Orlando actually-which is a great name

Duracellbunnywannabe · 31/03/2022 20:37

Roland rat definitely.

PoshWatchShitShoes · 31/03/2022 20:37

Dreadful

RancidOldHag · 31/03/2022 20:37

I've just had a highly localised 'mandela moment' - I would have sworn Roly was black, not apricot!!

DogsAndGin · 31/03/2022 20:37

Seen Schitt’s Creek?! Roland is trailer trash and the name suits him perfectly

tearinghairout · 31/03/2022 20:38

I like it. It's my cousin's name, and he's lovely. It's an old, classic name, but not out there like Hector or over-used like Oscar. Wasn't Roland some sort of hero (in the Middle Ages)?

allmysons · 31/03/2022 20:41

@LittleBearPad

Ratfanzz
😂😂😂
Huffle · 31/03/2022 20:42

I love it 🙂

Pbjontoast · 31/03/2022 20:43

I'm another that went straight to Roland from Grange Hill in the 80's. Not a great role model tbh

OneDayIWillBeOrganised · 31/03/2022 20:48

@Manekinek0

Came to say rat but pp beat me to it.
Same -sorry!Sad
20viona · 31/03/2022 20:49

Fuck no

Sillybillypoopoomummy · 31/03/2022 20:53

Byron - "childe roland to the dark tower came"
can't get more classic/romantic than that!

TitilatedOcelot · 31/03/2022 21:02

I know an adult Rowland (spelled that way), people thought it was a joke and not his real name - probably because he grew up In the era of Grange Hill, Roly the dog and Roland Rat!

Might be ok these days?

Roly the poodle was definitely apricot/light coloured. Wellard was blackConfused

Luredbyapomegranate · 31/03/2022 21:02

It’s alright I think.

If your family has any tendency to chubbiness maybe not.

Luredbyapomegranate · 31/03/2022 21:03

@DogsAndGin

Seen Schitt’s Creek?! Roland is trailer trash and the name suits him perfectly
🙄 you can like it or not like it but it’s an old literary name.
LesLavandes · 31/03/2022 21:04

Don't do it!

DisforDarkChocolate · 31/03/2022 21:04

Roland - yes.

Roly - no.
