Hi all I'm just after your first thoughts when you see the girls name Mazel or Mazelle and how would you pronounce it without looking it up? Mai-zel or Mar-zel or something different?? I like the meaning and the nn mazie but I'm unsure if the name is to out there

Margaret was completely ruined for me from someone I know who was an over the top utterly dreadful person. For all saying that I'm just trying to be difficult I'm not nothing is set in concrete and I asked on this thread specifically to check the reaction so it looks like it's back to the drawing board for names I like

* Oh fgs stop making up names. Mazel is dreadful. Clearly will be confused with Mazel Tov, will spend a life correcting pronunciation eg Mah-zel vs May-zel all because you wanted to be a bit different. Nuts.*

It's dreadful sorry OP, maisie is nice though

ButterRose · 30/03/2022 07:14

@Supersnot123 thanks for being polite :) Maisie might just end up being the middle name choice given the response I've had

Maisie is fine! It's the fact you're making up names to make it a nick name of. Just call her Maisie

CaptainMyCaptain · 30/03/2022 07:19

Mazel to rhyme with Hazel.
Mazelle to rhyme with gazelle.

Ottolin3 · 30/03/2022 07:25

mazel tov

If think of Mrs Maisel.

I always thought Mazel Tov meant congratulations, everyday is a school day!!

sixoclockalready · 30/03/2022 07:32

Sounds like Maize. Makes me think of corn

Oizys · 30/03/2022 07:34

I’m Jewish so all I think is Mazel Tov and find it a bit weird you’d want to use it as a name.

I’d guess if people saw it and didn’t know Mazel Tov then they’d assume it was pronounced to rhyme with Hazel

Oizys · 30/03/2022 07:37

OP just posting this for your information around the world Mazel.

Riverlee · 30/03/2022 07:39

Never heard of the name before, so I would think it was a made-up name.

I would pronounce Mazel as Maz -Zelle.

Easterbunnyiswindowshopping · 30/03/2022 07:39

Sanitary product?

AuntieStella · 30/03/2022 07:41

Maisie was originally and traditionally a nickname for Margaret

MintyMoocow · 30/03/2022 07:41

Maisie or Hazel?

Why not?

BlueFlavour · 30/03/2022 07:43

Mmmm it’s not very nice, sorry op. What about Marguerite on the birth certificate and Maisie as a nickname? That might work.

ralanne · 30/03/2022 07:44

Maisie could be a nickname for:
Mary
Mabel
Marjory
Mairead (Muh-rayd)
Maria
Mariana
Marina
Marissa
Melissa
Miriam

Musmerian · 30/03/2022 07:46

Totally daft and annoying.

I'm Jewish, went to a Jewish school from reception to year 13, and thought this😂😂
canyoutoleratethis · 30/03/2022 07:48

I genuinely don't understand the MN obsession with choosing a nickname and then retrospectively picking a 'proper' name for the birth certificate. Firstly, nicknames are by definition supposed to evolve over time based on a combination of the person's personality/nature/appearance/relationship - they're not chosen as a starting point for an 'actual' name. If you like Maisie, and intend to call your child Maisie, then her name is evidently Maisie? So stick that on the birth certificate and stop all this other nonsense. You are clearly trying to shoehorn a way of calling your child Maisie, but seem weirdly against actually calling your child Maisie. I just don't get it?!?

worraletdown · 30/03/2022 07:49

Mazikeen with the nickname Maze. I got that from Lucifer

Howmanydaysuntilfriday · 30/03/2022 07:50

Think of Mayo and a corn field

SynchOrSwim · 30/03/2022 07:50

The Marvelous Mrs Maisel is my first thought! Great show! Not keen on it as a first name though!

eandz13 · 30/03/2022 07:51

I thought of the nn Maze which reminded me of Mazikeen who is absolutely awesome, if a demon. I don't dislike any of your suggested names!
