Polly Maria or Cherry Maria, which would you go for ?

Polly, by itself, as long as Maria is only a middle name and not part of the first name

CottonSock · 26/03/2022 17:24

Sound like a lip gloss sorry

Happenchance · 26/03/2022 17:28

Polly Maria sounds like a medical term.

BiscuitLover3678 · 26/03/2022 17:34

Cherry is stripper or vagina (popped her cherry) so please don’t

MrsMigginsCat · 26/03/2022 17:43

Polly, but without the Maria. Or just Maria.

RippleQueen · 26/03/2022 18:06

@Luredbyapomegranate

Polly

Cherry is a bit dodgy

Thank you @luredbyapomegranate My daughter is called Cherry and she’s definitely not dodgy.

Polly makes me think of a parrot

BeReet · 26/03/2022 18:09

RippleQueen my daughter is also Cherry, although it is not her given name, it's what we call her. It suits her and she is not remotely dodgy. I like both Polly and Cherry tbh but am less keen on the Maria

Ellmau · 26/03/2022 18:58

I don't really like Polly and Maria together because Polly is tradiitonally a pet name for Mary, and Maria is a variant of Mary.

Cherry is OK.

What about Poppy? Poppy Maria sounds lovely.

Synchrony · 26/03/2022 20:37

I like Cherry.

Luredbyapomegranate · 26/03/2022 21:59

@PasDevantLesElephants

I speak as a former Polly. Don't do it, it's awful.
@PasDevantLesElephants it’s better than Cherry though, innit.
PasDevantLesElephants · 26/03/2022 22:03

@Luredbyapomegranate Can't disagree with that. Shall we just agree they're both unacceptable?

Zillamop · 26/03/2022 22:06

Chloe Maria?

Luredbyapomegranate · 26/03/2022 22:06

@BiscuitLover3678

Cherry is stripper or vagina (popped her cherry) so please don’t
@RippleQueen I’m sure your daughter is delightful but lots of people would find Cherry an odd name choice, eg Pp above and several others. You must have known what popping your Cherry meant when you chose it, so you have to expect it will come up.

Lets!

I think Polly is sweet, but I wouldn’t want to be called as an adult, I admit..

Itawapuddytat · 26/03/2022 22:54

I know of a Pauline nicknamed Polly. So Pauline Maria, or Paula Maria, nicknamed Polly?

herecomesthehotsteppa · 26/03/2022 23:06

Awful awful.

Chérie maybe?

Marcipex · 26/03/2022 23:14

Cherry is terrible.

Polly is quite sweet.

Maria doesn’t really go with either.

PollyPutTheKettleOnKettleOn · 26/03/2022 23:50

@herecomesthehotsteppa

Awful awful.

Chérie maybe?

Hmm. Cherie is a bit.... blair blah
Sarahplane · 26/03/2022 23:53

Sorry OP but I think both are awful

demoness · 27/03/2022 00:46

I'm not keen on either. Cherry sounds cute in theory but has unpleasant slang connotations. Polly is traditionally a nickname for Mary (even though they sound nothing alike) and Mary is a form of Maria so essentially you've got two forms of the same name, similar to "Betty Eliza" or something. If that doesn't bother you, go for it.

Pandypuff · 27/03/2022 05:19

I love Cherry! But not with Maria as it does sound a bit like a drink.

ZealAndArdour · 27/03/2022 05:29

Cherry Maria sounds like a disgusting alcopop that Stacey off Gavin and Stacey would drink.

user1471447924 · 27/03/2022 05:42

None of the above

Someonemustknowtheanswer · 27/03/2022 07:40

Neither

AvocadoPlant · 27/03/2022 07:46

@Musmerian

Polly is actually short for Mary - which is itself the anglicised form of Maria. So why not call her Maria but use Polly as her nickname?
Agree with this, And Cherry is dreadful as a name, at least give her a full name that can be shortened or lengthened if your DD hates it.
