Cherry Marie goes better.

Musmerian · 26/03/2022 16:39

Polly is actually short for Mary - which is itself the anglicised form of Maria. So why not call her Maria but use Polly as her nickname?

stuntbubbles · 26/03/2022 16:40

Polly.

Cherry Maria is the name of a body on CSI: Miami.

Polly can be quirky or cute or serious or sensible. I know a couple and they’re very different and it suits them both. Also Clever Polly and the Stupid Wolf!

Phormiumjester2 · 26/03/2022 16:40

I love Polly.

I don't love Cherry Maria. It sounds a bit like a stripper name or a drag queen.

Ohyesiam · 26/03/2022 16:52

Someone called Cherry might love it, or she might feel it’sa bit of a liability/ burden. If you choose a more neutral name, like Maria, it gives flexibility.

Zillamop · 26/03/2022 16:56

Cheryl Maria with Cherry as nickname.

TabithaTittlemouse · 26/03/2022 17:00

If Maria is the middle name you won’t be using it daily so ignoring the middle name I like Polly most. I think. Although Cherry is lovely too. Grin

Rosemary2022 · 26/03/2022 17:01

Polly can be a nickname for Alexandra.

What about Alexandra Maria - nickname Polly?

TabithaTittlemouse · 26/03/2022 17:01

I knew a horrible Cherry but it’s still a nice name.

Lulu1919 · 26/03/2022 17:03

Prolly

Cherry abounds like a stripper

Lulu1919 · 26/03/2022 17:03

Polly I meant lol

riotlady · 26/03/2022 17:03

Polly Maria

RuthW · 26/03/2022 17:03

@FannylovesDick

Cherry Maria sounds like a cocktail drink.
Exact this
SmallestInTheClass · 26/03/2022 17:04

Polly gets my vote, it goes better with Maria and IMO is a name that will suit your DD when she's older. Cherry sounds nice for a girl but not sure about it for a grown up.

ThroughThickAndThin01 · 26/03/2022 17:05

Polly

AHungryCaterpillar · 26/03/2022 17:06

Maria is definitely best out of all

stuntbubbles · 26/03/2022 17:07

Compromise with Cholly or Perry. Or Cherry-Polly.

ThroughThickAndThin01 · 26/03/2022 17:07

@Rosemary2022

Polly can be a nickname for Alexandra.

What about Alexandra Maria - nickname Polly?

You’ve just made that up!
TheHoptimist · 26/03/2022 17:07

@MrsTerryPratchett

It's one of those threads where the OP has a very specific view of what their DD will be. Cute, quirky, sweet.

Names need to be flexible, so your dour, stoic, sensible child isn't lumbered with Cherry FGS.

Black Maria ?
MrsTerryPratchett · 26/03/2022 17:09

Black Maria ?

Huh?

Rosemary2022 · 26/03/2022 17:09

Apologies I actually think I got that wrong - not a nickname for Alexandra but for Mary and Dorothy/Dorothea. Which are also beautiful.

greenlynx · 26/03/2022 17:11

Maria

SirChenjins · 26/03/2022 17:11

Polly - don’t call her (popping your) Cherry.

DoubleYouOhEmAyEn · 26/03/2022 17:12

Neither. Maria is OK but polly and cherry are not good imo. Polly will always be asked to put the kettle on and cherry is just a fruit.

tigerbird · 26/03/2022 17:12

Definitely Polly - it’s pretty and classic.

Cherry Maria sounds like an 80s cocktail from the bar at Pontins; or (as pp have said) a stripper or a drag queen. Don’t do it!
