Inspired by another thread, what do you think of the name Clara? And what kind of a person do you think of when you hear this name?

I really like it. Was on our list.
However I have 2 girls very into their dance, one particularly good at ballet so it was a bit twee for us.

I imagine a beautiful long haired girl, curly lock, very sweet and perhaps a little shy.

MurderAtTheBeautyPageant · 17/03/2022 22:42

A long distance lorry driver in a blue baseball cap.

I like the name.

I'm not a fan. To me it sounds like a clunky version between Cara and Lara and too hard a sound at the beginning. But it seems to be a popular choice. I much prefer either Cara and Lara, both lovely names.

There are a fair few girls named Clara/Klara at my DCs' secondary school in SE London. I know of some primary-aged ones locally too. All the Claras/Klaras I know are either into music or dance in a fairly big way.

Whyisitsodifficult · 17/03/2022 22:43

It makes me think of a cow but not sure why!

Longdistance · 17/03/2022 22:43

Bloody fabulous Grin

CharlotteRose90 · 17/03/2022 22:47

My niece is called Klara and it very much suits her. Pretty blonde hair, blue eyes and a sweet little gentle hair. Was the perfect name for her.

Whatdramain2022 · 17/03/2022 22:47

My great grandmother was Clara. She was widowed young and left with three children, one severely disabled. She trained as a midwife so she could support her family. She was a strong woman and so I see it as a strong, positive name.

HunterHearstHelmsley · 17/03/2022 22:49

I love the name.

My first thought is Back to the Future III

HunterHearstHelmsley · 17/03/2022 22:50

The K spelling is too close to Klarna

MrsMop1964 · 17/03/2022 23:08

Makes me think of the annoying Clara Oswald in Dr Who, the actress Clara Bow, and Clara in The Nutcracker ballet. I don't have strong feelings about it either way.

CoffeeBeansGalore · 17/03/2022 23:51

My great grandmother's name. She was lovely.

Drywhitefruitycidergin · 17/03/2022 23:58

The nutcracker, Clara in Heidi (quite niche but dd2's audiobook of choice currently), and a girl at primary school 2yrs above me whose mum gave my mum her first communion dress.
Lovely name.

ISeeTheLight · 18/03/2022 00:00

I absolutely love it. If we ever have another DD I'd like to use it.

NessieMcNessface · 18/03/2022 00:09

I think it’s beautiful; old fashioned and timeless like a character from Charles Dickens - Clara Copperfield for example. I’ve only ever known one Clara and she was a delightful little girl so I am a little biased. When I think of the name Clara I think of a child who is intelligent, sensitive, charming and personable.

LoveFall · 18/03/2022 00:35

It made me think of Klara (or Clara) in Heidi, a book I read many times as a child. I remember the Clara character fondly.

Hm2020 · 18/03/2022 00:43

Love it.

collieresponder88 · 18/03/2022 06:54

Dull

rhowton · 18/03/2022 10:48

I absolutely love it. I was due a baby in January 2017 and we were going to call her Clara. I ended up having a late miscarriage and close friends of ours who had their baby in December 2016, ended up calling their baby Clara. It absolutely broke my heart, but they didn't know and we've never told them. It's still my favourite girls name.

FlamingoDust · 18/03/2022 10:51

Love it!

WholeMilkIsMinging · 18/03/2022 10:55

It annoys me, but that's mainly because of how popular it is on Mumsnet 😂

I think of a head girl type who's mother is MN royalty.

Leelaseye · 18/03/2022 11:04

Sorry for your loss rhowtonThanks

I like it because I know a very lovely 11 yo Clara.

MsTSwift · 18/03/2022 11:05

Lovely and not too over used

pandora206 · 18/03/2022 11:15

I recently read Klara and the Sun by Kazuo Ishiguru, so that would be my connection. The character is an 'artificial friend' (aka a robot) and it's quite a bleak tale, albeit a well-written one.

emmathedilemma · 18/03/2022 12:00

Love it, I don't know any or even heard of any through the kids talking about friends etc so maybe popularity depends where in the country you are.
