Inspired by another thread, what do you think of the name Clara? And what kind of a person do you think of when you hear this name?

There are lots of Claras in my family tree so would have been tempted if I'd had a girl, although probably as a middle name. I think it's a very elegant name.

ISmellBurnings · 18/03/2022 12:16

I love it. I thought it was quite popular, I know a couple of little Clara’s.

FourChimneys · 18/03/2022 12:54

I love Clara but not Klara (although I'm a big Kazuo Ishiguru fan). I know a baby Clara and a very feisty 9 year old, a strong character who will do well in life.

Mol1628 · 18/03/2022 13:00

It makes me think of a chicken. Not sure why.

But I do like it for a human. Cora is also nice.

Cocobeau · 18/03/2022 13:09

I like Clara. I don't know any Clara's but I imagine Clara to be intelligent and soft mannered.

Sarahplane · 18/03/2022 13:13

love it. I think of Clara in Dr Who

MargosKaftan · 18/03/2022 13:23

I really like it and don't know any.

I know quite a few Clares, but that is mainly 40-somethings, not little girls.

Pinotpleasure · 18/03/2022 13:33

I really like it. I also like a similar name - Clarissa.

There’s a Victorian gravestone near my house and another similar name which I like is on it - Clarinda.

I do think they are all timeless names.

It's lovely to get such a positive response to it, I didn't want to influence any of the answers but we named our 2nd baby Clara and I was having some name regrets for a long time. Only recently I've started to accept it, she was 3 months old a few days ago. I know it's silly but knowing that so many people love it, makes me love it more and not worry about whether it's nice enough for her if you know what I mean

Beautiful! I think of the Nutcracker ballet

Darinka91 · 18/03/2022 14:31

Some of the answers did make me laugh though, about the lorry driver and the cow one haha

RealRaymondReddington · 18/03/2022 14:31

It's okay, a bit horsey though.

PrincessCaspian91 · 18/03/2022 21:57

I adore it. I love the Nutcracker.

Sexnotgender · 18/03/2022 21:58

Love it.

BeanStew22 · 18/03/2022 21:58

@MurderAtTheBeautyPageant

A long distance lorry driver in a blue baseball cap.

I like the name.

Also - a feminist pioneer!

It’s a nice name, unusual but not out there

Friend’s teenager has this name

Sprig1 · 18/03/2022 22:01

Love it. V classy.

yikesanotherbooboo · 18/03/2022 22:09

Heidi
And a nn for my mother Clare.
Both positive connotations obvs.
There are a few around , the ones I know are under 15 .

Fantail999 · 18/03/2022 22:11

It's the name of my grandmother's dog.
There are quite a few Clara/Klaras in Y1 at school. The one we know well is extremely bossy and stubborn. She's very overbearing. I've been completely put off the name.

EachandEveryone · 18/03/2022 22:14

Its very very popular in London its up there with Leo a boy. Both lovely names but I bet its in the top five soon.

We have a baby Clara and we've had so many positive comments about her name. I think it's a beautiful name. And I think my love of the name has grown as she has grown because my associations with the name are now so closely tied to her and the beautiful, happy little girl she is. Hope you experience the same! xx
Luredbyapomegranate · 19/03/2022 08:08

Nice, popular

It’s a wee bit twee so I probably wouldn’t use it

MsTSwift · 19/03/2022 08:35

I don’t find it twee at all. I like that it’s quite strong - cannot bear weak names for girls (Millie /Poppy/Honey) etc urgh

MsTSwift · 19/03/2022 08:37

I don’t have one and actually don’t know any. Most girls round here are called an Eve name, Lily or Olivia. So makes a nice change!
