Hi all 🤍

We're expecting a little girl in the summer and are really stuck on names. Middle name is going to be Rosina (my nans middle name) but we just can't get set on a first name.

We both really love Daphne, we love that's it's quite vintage and that you don't hear it often but we're just not 100%. What do you think of the name daphne?

Some of the other names we really like are ..

Cecily (CeCe)
Beatrice (Bea)
Penelope (P)
Adelie/Addison (Addi)

Please help us or leave any suggestions 😭

Thanks so much xx

Not keen sorry. Gives me old lady vibes and would be difficult for me to keep a poker face if a friend told me that was the name they were choosing.

I like Cecily best out of your choices. Good luck with whatever you choose x

toastofthetown · 01/03/2022 17:15

It's ok. Don't love it, but it's not awful. I think it will get very trendy though. It's already picking up in popularity (now top 300 and still rising) and I see it on so many name forums over the last couple of years.

Cecily is by far my favourite of the names you've listed.

Dreamingof3 · 01/03/2022 17:34

I quite like it! I do think it's going to rise in the popularity lists though is that bothers you (bridgerton!)

I also absolutely love Cecily/cece

DramaAlpaca · 01/03/2022 18:57

I absolutely adore Daphne. I love Cecily too, but not quite as much as Daphne.

GiantSpider · 01/03/2022 19:01

I quite like it but prefer Cecily. Or you might like Clementine or Clover?

Vicliz24 · 01/03/2022 19:04

I adore Daphne !! And Marjorie too such evocative names

Cedarfire · 01/03/2022 19:05

I love it, our daughter was going to be Daphne, Phoebe or Nancy but we settled on Nancy in the end.
It’s a beautiful name, I also like Beatrice and Cecily from your list.
Be brave and do it, names are so subjective you’ll never find one that everyone loves, it’s impossible!

Tillymintpolo · 01/03/2022 19:06

Scooby dooby doo

chloboe · 01/03/2022 19:13

@Cedarfire we must have the exact same taste in names! We loved Nancy but one of our friends also loved it and won us to the race a year ago😂 and we love phoebe too!!

Daphne = Bridgerton to me! Like it though

NameChange30 · 01/03/2022 19:34

Phoebe was on my shortlist for DD, it's lovely but I do prefer Daphne as it's more unusual (we couldn't use it because friends had).

I quite like Penelope and Beatrice but am not such a fan of Cecily, I think it's the repetitive "s" sounds, seems more of a fussy than a classic name to me.

It's all so subjective though isn't it?!

extractorfactor · 01/03/2022 19:39

Love Daphne and it's a beautiful scented plant which brightens up dreary winter days.

bewitchingnight · 01/03/2022 19:42

I love the name Daphne! It was on our list along with Penelope. Also liked Nancy, Dorothy and Clara but we went with Clementine in the end. Like all your other options except for Addison but Daphne is the nicest.

CaravanConcerns · 01/03/2022 19:43

Love Daphne too - I think we have similar taste as our girls shortlist was very similar to yours. We liked Cordelia - so many lovely nickname choices. The Mitford sisters (for the 30s country house vibe) were Nancy, Deborah, Diana, Jessica and Unity.

annlee3817 · 01/03/2022 19:50

Don't pick any based on the nicknames, we thought our DDs nickname would be Millie, but it just doesn't suit her lol :)

FelicityPike · 01/03/2022 19:50

The “fat” one out The Broons.
Scooby Doo.

Never met one in real life.

Icecreamandapplepie · 01/03/2022 20:18

I love Daphne and wanted to give our dd that name!

Shame husband wasn't keen because she really would've suited it Smile

Stormwhale · 01/03/2022 20:22

I have a Daphne and she is the only one in her school which she absolutely loves. It is definitely rising in popularity though so I think in a few years there may be others. I was so torn between Daphne and Delphi/Delphine, but Daphne won. It suits our girl perfectly. She is pretty and girly, but also smart and strong and it just works for her.

pjparty · 01/03/2022 20:25

I love Daphne!
Wish it could be on my list but it's our best friends dog's name so it would be strange.

mathanxiety · 01/03/2022 20:28

Gorgeous name, and Daphne Rosina is a wonderful combination.

I know a pair of 4 yo twins who are Daphne and Cecily.

I think Daphne may be one of the nicest of the 1920s style names - YY to the posters who mention country houses, Bertie Wooster.

GingerFigs · 01/03/2022 20:28

Scooby Doo

LilacSloth · 01/03/2022 20:34

Really don't like Daphne. All the other names on your list are lovely and so much nicer. Daphne seems very marmite.

Throughabushbackwards · 01/03/2022 20:37

We have two Great Aunt Daphne's in our family, one from my side one from
DH's. Both wonderful, formidable women! DS was to be named for them but alas...

Cactuslockdown · 01/03/2022 20:38

I think it’s a beautiful name Smile

Firebird83 · 01/03/2022 21:37

Love Daphne Rosina!
