Any opinions of the name Austin?

It’s the only boys name DH and I both agree on at the moment but something is holding me back.

Just wondered what people’s opinions are of it as a first name. Or any alternatives that are similar? The middle name would be Michael.

Any thoughts?

My dad had an Austin A40 when I was a kid, that was what sprang to mind. Good little car, lasted for years, maroon coloured.

Michael is a far nicer name.

I love the name Austin. I had a great uncle with that name and I've always thought is was lovely.

GladysAndFred · 15/02/2022 17:05

I like it, but it sounds American to me (don't know if you mind that or not).

@GladysAndFred

I like it, but it sounds American to me (don't know if you mind that or not).
"Sounds American." 🙄

Enough of that shit already.

Easterbunnyiswindowshopping · 15/02/2022 17:07

Love it op!!

MostIneptThatEverStepped · 15/02/2022 17:16

I like it. There was an older boy at school called Austin that everyone fancied 😉

Mydogisagentleman · 15/02/2022 17:17

DD has a boyfriend called Austin.
We are very fond of him so I am positive about it

LottieDot · 15/02/2022 17:19

Love Austin!

CouncilHousedAndViolentBaby · 15/02/2022 17:20

American

WildCherryBlossom · 15/02/2022 17:28

Austin, Texas? I think that's why people think it sounds American.

Austin Metro? I think the cars will be such a distant memory that none of your don's peer group will have heard of them.

Jane Austen...?

Austin is fine. Personally, of your two names I far prefer Michael but you are the boy's parents so go with what you like best.

RestingStitchFace · 15/02/2022 17:33

I don't think it sounds American tbh. It's not a new faddy name. I've known several Austin's, the oldest of which is approaching 60 and the youngest is 5.

RestingStitchFace · 15/02/2022 17:33

Not that sounding American makes a name bad - quick disclaimer!

MyBottleOfRibena · 15/02/2022 17:37

Austin Powers for me

BringBackThinEyebrows · 15/02/2022 17:49

@MyBottleOfRibena

Austin Powers for me
Same!
HowlingKale · 15/02/2022 17:54

Austin Powers.

SirChenjins · 15/02/2022 17:56

Austin Powers - yeah, baby!

Luredbyapomegranate · 15/02/2022 17:59

Michael is much nicer

It’s not awful.. it’s just not good.

TatianaBis · 15/02/2022 18:04

Austin, Texas and a rather mediocre car are not associations I’d choose.

Michael is way better.

TheDoveFromAboveCooCoo · 15/02/2022 18:07

I like Austin

Michael sounds like he should be a 30 year old bank manager.

SkankingMopoke · 15/02/2022 18:09

It's fine and inoffensive IMO. There's unlikely to be another in the class, if that is a consideration for you.
When I hear the name I think Stone Cold Steve Austin, but that will mean nothing to your DC's generation.

Chewbecca · 15/02/2022 18:10

There was a really dishy Austin in my primary school too so it has good vibes for me as well!

ThePennyJustDropped · 15/02/2022 18:13

I really like Austin. Says everything and nothing I.e would take the owner anywhere in life and enable him to fit in.

Goes really nicely before Michael too which is a very solid name to my ears.

MarshmallowSwede · 15/02/2022 18:17

I would assume it’s an American boy.

Beninthesortingoffice · 15/02/2022 18:19

Love it. It's short for Augustine which I also love

Louisianagumbo · 15/02/2022 18:21

I didn't used to like it but my friend's new husband is called Austin and he's the loveliest guy (with the patience of a saint! Lol.) So I'm a convert. It's got good vibes.
