Any opinions of the name Austin?

It’s the only boys name DH and I both agree on at the moment but something is holding me back.

Just wondered what people’s opinions are of it as a first name. Or any alternatives that are similar? The middle name would be Michael.

Any thoughts?

Augustine much nicer IMHO.
Austin is not American in origin. It's been used since the Middle Ages in Europe as short form of Augustine. (So has 'Austen', 'Austyn' etc).

I know two recent babies called Austin, funnily enough. It's nice enough, suits them both I think.

It's OK, kind of dull though. A grey kind of name. I think of cars etc.

As pps said, Michael is much nicer.

To me it's an Irish grandad type name. I know a few octogenarian Austins.

I like it. Sounds quite staid to me, solid and dependable.

I prefer Austen.
That way it is different from the car.
If you both like it that’s a big plus and it’s a good strong name .

I think it’s going to slowly rise in the charts. I know three little Austin’s.

I like it but I always follow it with Texas in my head. But that's just me.
