Is indigo too 'out there'?

Struggling to agree on names with my DH. He's discounting most of my favourite nature names (primrose, amber, pearl) and even my longstanding favourite Esme (he says Esme's are 'everywhere')
But he likes indigo (Indy as a nn) which really surprised me as he's usually fairly conservative.
I like the name but I'm concerned we are too 'normal' for it. Is it too much do you think?

I know a little Indigo, but her parents have called her Indy since the day she was born, so I didn't really get the point...

There was an Idy / Indigo in Home & Away a few years ago. I quite like it.

It's not too out there. I've never met one but it's quite an American thing so you see them on TV shows. It's an OK name. I guess my judgey side thought it's quite a wet name, parents either woo or trying hard to be cool. But thinking about it it's not a bad name. Indy is cute.

I prefer Amber. Not keen on Pearl (makes me think of US grandmas on TV again!)

Don't call her primrose she will be bullied with it starting with prim. Really wet name. Posy is a contrived nick name. I think she'd get called prim by school friends.

Nice to see some more responses. I think you've convinced me to use it as most of you seem to think it's a fairly normal name.
I still like primrose but leaning more towards indigo as it's a bit less girly and I like the nicknames Indy, Diggy and Gogo.

I don't understand what bullying can come from prim?

Why not use India? It's a gorgeous, very posh name and Indy as a NN would work perfectly.

What about Marina - it's a nature name and very classic? It could be shortened to Rina.

@AlbertBridge we have no ties to India at all, and our little one will likely be blondish and fair skinned and half Irish. I think it would seem strange. It is a beautiful name though.

I love it! ‘Scarlet’ is a popular name so why not indigo.

@Rangoon Marina is indeed beautiful and ideal as we are a sea loving, sailing type family. DH's cousin is Marina though so it's kind of out.
We've considered Marnie which means sea and is on our long list.

My daughters friend is Called Indie-Rae and it suits her perfectly, shes 5 and doesn't seem to care about her name.

Indigo is a lovely name also and I wouldn't be concerned with that choice of name at all.

I like it, but as it’s used for boys too, I think it needs a definitely feminine middle name.

@WaffleWaffles I love Indie-Rae. You hear so many criticisms of hyphenated names on here which makes me cautious of using one, but I think Indie is a name that works so well hyphenated.

Indie-Rae is cute.
I know a Millie-Beaux and a Gracie-Bo.

It only sounds silly imo if the names are too long (and you then insist that the teachers must say Orriana-May every time)
