@CourtRand Possibly because I'm a native German speaker, and that's the way I first came across the name as a child. I think it's a very pretty name with the 'correct' pronunciation, but "Otterly" seems like a very different name.

Classica · 28/01/2022 11:43

Are you the person who previously had an Ottie thread? Can't believe there are two people considering this name.

user1493494961 · 28/01/2022 12:00

Awful.

BusySittingDown · 28/01/2022 12:03

It's beautiful, I love it!

Zoe Sugg (AKA Zoella) has just named her baby this so I see it going up in popularity.

Gigi97 · 28/01/2022 12:42

@Classica nope that wasn’t me …

It's awful and I can't imagine an adult being called that tbh

PattyPan · 28/01/2022 12:58

Too twee for an adult. Can you imagine Sergeant Ottie Lastname?

Pemba · 28/01/2022 13:18

It's awful, I'm not over keen on Ottilie itself, but at least that's a proper name. But Ottie is an unattractive nickname for Ottilie, doesn't seem like a real name and, like pps have said, has so many unfortunate rhymes! There are so many lovely names for girls, why would anyone choose 'Ottie'?

HacerSonarSusPasos · 28/01/2022 13:23

@Crowdfundingforcake

Ottilie with Ottie as a nn, OK, but not Ottie as a standalone. 'Ottie the hottie.....'
Yep, that's how I feel.

Ottilia I like even better.

kitcat15 · 28/01/2022 13:41

OTTILIE is so common now...last 2 years there's been loads of them in NW where I am ....it will be a really dated name in time to come.....if you are going to do it , then go with the full Ottilie....Ottie is ok for a pet name but thats about it

HacerSonarSusPasos · 28/01/2022 14:20

How about Tilly as an alternative nn with Ottilie/Ottilia as the full name?

HoliHormonalTigerlilly · 28/01/2022 15:46

Short for Ottiline or Ottilie?

ISmellBurnings · 28/01/2022 16:10

This has been asked before and I’m sure the answer was no from pretty much everyone.

It doesn’t even feel like a name.

The previous Ottie thread was mine! I thought it was a really cute name but I do think for when she’s an adult it may be better to call her something else. I hadn’t realised Zoe Sugg had called her baby Ottie until I made the thread- I think it will become a lot less unique now

IlIlI · 28/01/2022 16:42

I don't like it. I just think Ottie the Otter, like some cartoon or something. It sounds like it's a nickname too rather than a full proper first name.

NowEvenBetter · 28/01/2022 17:48

I can’t say it in my accent, it’d be ‘oddy’, lots of other accents would struggle too. London’s, Yorkshire, Scottish etc. (‘Uh-eh’)

Zoe has called her little girl Ottilie but she shortens it to Ottie. It's such a pretty name though!
Liv999 · 28/01/2022 18:17

It's terrible, Ottilie is awful too but at least it's a full name

crimblecrumbles · 28/01/2022 20:00

My DD is an Ottilie and nn Ottie. We also call her Otter!

Cindie943811A · 28/01/2022 23:45

Shows how tastes differ. PersonallyI think it’s very ugly name — nota graceful sound but others think it pretty.

HelloBunny · 28/01/2022 23:48

Otter.

MichaelBooblay · 28/01/2022 23:49

I just think Botty

RonCarlos · 28/01/2022 23:52

Well, it wouldn't be for me. Ottilie is slightly more better.

Blubells · 29/01/2022 16:48

Awful

It doesn't travel well at all
