I just have an image in my mind of a toddler repeatedly saying 'ottie needs potty'. It's too cutsey-poo and silly.

UserBotTrending · 29/01/2022 17:13

Really awful.

It just sounds unattractive in any accent besides a crisp RP English accent, and I wouldn't love it, but in a cockney accent, in an Irish accent, in an American accent... it's kind of ugly.

HomeHomeInTheRange · 29/01/2022 17:23

Is it even a name?

Obviously anything can be used as a name…Webbi, Porvy-Mell, Urkle, whatever.

LOL, don’t encourage people!

Ottie?

To rhyme with potty and hottie?

This is not a good idea.

Freddie456 · 30/01/2022 08:57

I like it, would use Ottilie as the full name

Lanique · 30/01/2022 09:10

Is it even a name?

It's harsh sounding and reminds me of an otter.

Not that I dislike otters, they're cute, but I wouldn't really want my child's name to remind me of a fishy-smelling river dweller that bites.

Cheesechips · 30/01/2022 09:14

Yes it makes me think of an otter too. Call me boring but I prefer a classic name that will stand the test of time. Poor kid will be stuck with that for life, you need to think deeper than just liking the sound of it!

mycatisannoying · 30/01/2022 09:15

Noooo. It's so twee!
And the boys in high school will call her Ottie the Hottie Sad

Treecreature · 30/01/2022 09:15

It's awful. Don't inflict that on your kid.

applesandpearz · 30/01/2022 09:38

It depends on the regional accent!

I don't mind Ottilie with Ottie as a nn. It's a bit odd for an adult.

Ginandplatonic · 30/01/2022 09:45

I think it’s cute but would definitely use Ottilie or a variation as a full name.

sweetbellyhigh · 30/01/2022 09:50

Makes me thinking occupational therapist
O T

sweetbellyhigh · 30/01/2022 09:52

@Cheesecakeandwineinasuitcase

It sounds like a nickname or shortened version of a name. I prefer Charlotte with the shortening Lottie.
That is SO much nicer.

Why choose ottee ugh when there is beautiful Lottie?

Meandthesky · 30/01/2022 10:14

I think it’s awful but then I also don’t like Ottilie which always gets love on MM

HomeHomeInTheRange · 30/01/2022 10:34

Or totty
scottishnames · 30/01/2022 17:59

CourtRand because it's a German name, and German (and many other related languages) names with a final 'e' are pronounced with a a 'schwa' - in other words, as an 'eh' or 'uh' or faint 'ah' sound. For example, I know a Dutch person named Anne, pronounced 'Ahnn-uh'.

Blubells · 30/01/2022 21:22

I'd pronounce Ottilie as Ott ee lee eh. 4 syllables.

Blubells · 30/01/2022 21:23

Emphasis on the second syllable O TEE lee eh

Pleasefeedcarbs · 30/01/2022 21:58

To call someone ottie seems a bit potty, sounds like she won’t be a hottie instead a bit grotty and snotty.

Flat no from me.
