Short, strong boy names - help please

I'm over 37 weeks so this is getting increasingly urgent but DH and I just cannot find boy names we both like. We don't know what flavour of baby we're having, but we've found we agree much more easily on girl names.

I'd prefer the name to be quite short, or have a short diminutive. We're both Scottish and live here but whilst I like the idea of a Scottish name I'm struggling to find one we both like, so it doesn't have to be Scottish at all.

We like some Old Testament names but can't agree on the ones we do like. And I'm not after any Elijahs, Elis or Noahs anyway.

Surname is two syllables but 8 letters so would prefer a shorter first name and has some hard consonants in it. Would like the names to sound good together so am keen on things that have R, K, V or I sounds in them but not absolutely necessary. Would prefer not to end in an S as surname starts with an S, but no objection to it starting with one as I've an alliterative name myself (not S).

Girls names we're agreed on are Vera or Olive (although other 'v' names like Ivy and Violet are long listers).

Boy names we like but don't seem right for various reasons (including family members, too popular, or just don't seem quite right for an intangible reason) include Finn, Seth, Benjamin, Ã’ran, Ivo. I really like Finn but DH is a bit less keen and it's been so popular for years that I don't want to consign my child to being Finn S all the way through school as DH and myself both experienced that. Particularly as our girl names are less popular (although obviously Olive is increasingly so, it's just that it's been a favourite of ours for years). And I don't like Flynn!

Sorry for that rather long winded intro! Any suggestions are very welcome (and happy to take girl names too in case there's something we're missing).

I have a Magnus. It ends in S obviously but other than that I think it fits your bill - short, strong and Scottish-y (not actually Scottish but popular here).

Laurie…..can be Laurence when an adult. My son loves his name and has benefited from a long name for work purposes!

@ContadoraExplorer

Struan us on our list, not a particularly common Scottish name but feels like they'd be a strong, dependable adult 😆

My Cal has Calum on his birth certificate but has always been Cal. He suits it enormously - now a teen and he's never met another.
