I recently heard of an Elphinstone Dalgleish. Have also met a couple of kids called Star.

What fun/marvellous/slightly wacky names have you come across?

Saffron Gardenchild.

I’m so jealous of this name - I think I’d seriously consider taking it by deed poll, if I had the opportunity to do so without repercussions of laughter and inconvenience (e.g. my family and friends all died and I won a huge amount on the lottery enabling me to start life afresh as a tragic figure in a big house in the middle of 10,000 acres somewhere - the Tenant of the Hall, the mysterious Miss Saffron Gardenchild).

I used to work with a Grenville Heathcote. He's a teacher. Luckily the kids thought he was cool otherwise who knows what they would have said/done!

Pumpkin was called in to see the GP (via the digital screen thing so it definitely wasn't me mishearing)

Also Havana was in the waiting room with us for a recent hospital appointment, I got speaking to her mum so again I know it was correct.

CthulhuInDisguise · 11/01/2022 10:43

I know twins named Sky Curtis [surname] and Blue Sillett [surname], born on the day their parents football team won the FA Cup.

I have family members who are siblings called Sunny, Skye, Starr and Summer.

WinterWitch · 11/01/2022 10:44

A little girl named Pebbles!! - At first I always thought about the Flintstones whenever I heard her name at the nursery I worked at but it actually really suited her, and she was a very confident little girl.

thesparkthatbled · 11/01/2022 10:48

Best name I've ever come across is a lady in a social history book about the Scottish Isles: Euphemia McCrimmon. She looked stern as hell in the pictures as well!

I know siblings called Ellis and Eloise, both lovely names, but an odd choice for siblings I always thought.

I've met a Ron McDonald.

DH used to work with a Tim Mallet

Chelsea26 · 11/01/2022 10:56

I have cousins called Brogan (F) and Garrett (M) dont know if theure traditional names or not but they are both very cool in my opinion.

I also know a lady called Bee Devine and she is!!

TheAbbotOfUnreason · 11/01/2022 10:58

Subulter Io was pronounced Eye-oh, but I think it can also be Ee-oh?

Hoppinggreen you can see why William Henry Pratt chose the stage name Boris Karloff.

Recycledblonde · 11/01/2022 10:59

Everleigh-Raine- sounded like a glamorous Gone with the Wind character.

Ameanstreakamilewide · 11/01/2022 11:02

@RussianSpy101

Without the context, it seems normal but my fathers orthopaedic surgeon is Mr Jellinek.

Jelly neck 😂

My mum works with a gynaecologist called Dr Fanny Cocker.

Bless her!

TheAbbotOfUnreason · 11/01/2022 11:03

There were some cracking names given to babies in Scotland in 2020 - including:

Pebbles
Demi-Dyce (wonder if they were from Aberdeen?)
Bijou-Amore
Jersey-Grey
Bear-Blu
Jettison
Fitz-Kiing
Navy-Blaze
Tommy-Tucker

Ace Factor. His brother was called Max Factor.

margegunderson · 11/01/2022 11:14

There's a teacher at a local secondary who has the name plate on his door R. Sandercock. You need to say it out loud before you wonder what his parents were thinking.

Sd352 · 11/01/2022 11:14

@ThedaBara

Met a lady who had twins named Natasha and Natalia... which is literally the same name
I know of sisters called Renita and Renata.
MintyGreenDream · 11/01/2022 11:18

Sweetpea

GloriaSilver · 11/01/2022 11:22
@GloriaSilver That's a beautiful name. I wish I'd thought of it while pg with DD.
I love it too

steppemum · 11/01/2022 11:36

Mumofgirls2017

bit confused by your list, since when was Octavia or Thalia an unusual name? - and many others on that list.

I once met a young woman with a name in similar lines to Blessing, Precious, except it was a 3 or 4 word phrase, and she used all the phrase as her name.
I cannot for the life of me remember it, but it was something like:

God is always good
God loves you
or God answers your prayers

You get the idea. It was quite startling to hear, and I was amazed that she had never shortened it.

Harriet Tubman's original name was Araminta, which I think is just lovely, shortened to Minty.

Benmac · 11/01/2022 11:44

Frank Sinatra Hollywood

sashh · 11/01/2022 11:46

I've met a Brilliant.

I've taught a Blessing.

I go to a dentist called 'Nice'. She is really nice.

And although not totally out there my mum was called Jonquil

I used to do a Ju-Jitsu class with a Jonquil - fab name, but she normally used 'Jon'.

One of my dad's neighbours has a Boniface.

MotherOfAllZipFiles · 11/01/2022 11:49

I know of a little boy called Apollo, wonderful name IMO

Dresslover1950s · 11/01/2022 11:55

My nephew is an Apollo my son has an unusual name hasn’t popped up on here yet

MmeD · 11/01/2022 12:15

Grin @HunkyPunk

I didn’t realise how much time I’ve obviously wasted on that particular daydream until I’d pressed post!

WilliamofBaskerville · 11/01/2022 12:15

When I was temping I came across a lawyer called Alcides Hellmeister. Think he was South American. Sounds like a Bond villain!

LeftieLucy · 11/01/2022 12:23

I knew a Peter Pinches at school.

Coolest name ever was a lady that came into my work called Raven Shakespeare.
