Primrose Adelaide

My husband and I are planning on trying for our 3rd child soon. We’re settled on a boys name and are leaning towards Primrose Adelaide [Lastname] if it’s a girl. We both love the name Primrose with the nicknames Prim and Posy. Adelaide would be in honor of my husband whose childhood nickname was Addy. We won’t be switching the order of the names or simply using the name Rose as we both hate it. Our son, our eldest, is Lochlan and our daughter is Elowyn- or Loch and Winnie/Wynn for short.
We were just wondering what others thought of the name.

Primrose is very twee.

ThrobbingToothacheOfTheMind · 01/01/2022 18:22

Just call her Posy. Primrose is ghastly.

Thatsplentyjack · 01/01/2022 18:23

Absolutely awful, and I don't really get the link between your husbands nick name and Adelaide. Was your husband called Adelaide for some reason and then it was shortened to Addy?

catandbabymama · 01/01/2022 18:26

Sounds very pretentious and honestly if my parents called me that I would hate them forever. Can't imagine being a teenager at high school and everyone taking the mick - especially if she isn't "prim". Adelaide just makes me think of the place straight away but it makes for a dreadful name and doesn't go with Primrose at all. Your other two children have really lovely names and Primrose doesn't match them at all

ringoutthebells · 01/01/2022 18:43

Think it's awful too, sorry. Dd has a friend called Primrose and everyone calls her Prim, it's just a bit weird. Adelaide I find really ugly too. Ada or Adriana nn Addy would be better, if that's important.

LovelyLupins · 01/01/2022 18:52

Awful, sorry. Primrose is twee and affected in a crocheted toilet roll cover kind of a way.
Posy is wet and Prim is cats bum mouthed.

Adelaide is a matronly woman in a wide brimmed hat.

In the nicest possible way, you may need tp wait until your pregnancy hormones have subsided. I am very glad we didn’t use the names I was set on whilst heavily pregnant!

LovelyLupins · 01/01/2022 18:53

Agree that Ada would be a better choice.

@DemBonesDemBones
Thank you! That’s so cool about our kids names! What is your child’s name?

Primrose is really an awful name.

InletsandBrambles · 01/01/2022 20:35

@MrsTerryPratchett
Mariposa is pretty but not a name we’re interested in. I would be delighted to meet someone named Mariposa.

Would you like to be called Primrose? Because I keep thinking if I called a client and left a message as Primrose... it just sounds so twee.

SummaLuvin · 01/01/2022 20:49

We won’t be switching the order of the names or simply using the name Rose as we both hate it.

Remember that you can't control what your daughter is called for very long. She might love being a Rose once she starts to develop into her own person, consider if that would bother you.

I very much dislike Primrose, Prim, and Posy. I am lukewarm on Rose/Rosie. But I love Adelaide. Don't think we have similar taste.

CombatBarbie · 01/01/2022 21:03

Addy as in Aidy....? I actually like adelaide but Adrian (which is unisex in many countries) would make more sense.

PiesNotGuys · 01/01/2022 21:09

It wouldn’t be my choice. Having the place name second does make it sound like a hotel or address.

Perhaps Adeline/Adelyn?

ChocolateDeficitDisorder · 01/01/2022 21:12

Cosette nn Cosy?

HobgoblinGold · 01/01/2022 22:10

Really don't like primrose.
