Primrose Adelaide

My husband and I are planning on trying for our 3rd child soon. We’re settled on a boys name and are leaning towards Primrose Adelaide [Lastname] if it’s a girl. We both love the name Primrose with the nicknames Prim and Posy. Adelaide would be in honor of my husband whose childhood nickname was Addy. We won’t be switching the order of the names or simply using the name Rose as we both hate it. Our son, our eldest, is Lochlan and our daughter is Elowyn- or Loch and Winnie/Wynn for short.
We were just wondering what others thought of the name.

Sounds absolutely bloody ridiculous. Get a grip!

Porridgeislife · 01/01/2022 07:21

I like Primrose but the initial combo of P and A might not sit well with your surname. PAM, PAT, PAW, PAD etc

MimiDaisy11 · 01/01/2022 07:29

I like Rose, but Primrose is too much. I’d have hated it at school. Prim almost seems like an insult.

ThorsLeftNut · 01/01/2022 07:34

Another that thinks it wouldn’t are well. After she’s turned 10/12 i don’t think it fits.
I also know an adult Primrose and she hates it and calls herself Rosie.

FourTeaFallOut · 01/01/2022 07:35

It sounds like a nursing home.

toastofthetown · 01/01/2022 08:45

I like it. Primrose is currently shooting up the charts at the moment if that bothers you. Prim and Posy are cute nicknames, and there’s always the option for the very conventional Rose if she prefers that.

DukkaTheHallsWithBoughsOfHolly · 01/01/2022 08:51

I don’t understand the love for Primrose, it’s not a name I like. Too twee. Especially Posy. It’s all a bit of a mouthful if I’m honest.

MintMatchmaker · 01/01/2022 08:54

Don’t like Primrose and I don’t think it goes with Adelaide.

Nosnowthisyear · 01/01/2022 08:54

I don’t like either of them sorry and would hate to be called Primrose myself.

SuperbOwls · 01/01/2022 08:58

Wynn and Prim are a bit rhymey for me. Potentially very confusing when shouting up the stairs!

I would swap them round personally but each to their own

Wisemensay · 01/01/2022 08:59

I think it's really pretty.

Prescottdanni123 · 01/01/2022 09:21

I really like it

MadeOfStarStuff · 01/01/2022 10:07

I like Posy and Adelaide but not Prim or Primrose

DidgeDoolittle · 01/01/2022 10:32

I would hate to be called Primrose. I was an awkward child and sporty teenager. I am 5:7 and not remotely delicate. Having the burden of such a twee, delicate name would be unbearable.

Onceuponatimethen · 01/01/2022 10:43

The Adelaide doesn’t work as a middle name for Primrose - you would be better with Adela which is a lovely medieval origin name

MeredithGreyishblue · 01/01/2022 10:47

It sounds like she arrived in the Fourth at Malory Towers, indulged by her governess and adored by Gwendolen Mary Lacey until it turns out daddy's bankrupt and she's actually on a scholarship. But she can sing! So all is redeemed.

Sockwomble · 01/01/2022 12:32

I wouldn't use Primrose if you hate Rose because she may choose that as her nickname.

KeflavikAirport · 01/01/2022 13:11

I don't like Primrose either. Sorry. Adelaide is OK.

Member589500 · 01/01/2022 13:50

Prim. No.
So many better flower names.
If you like Posie then lovely classic Rosemary. (I suspect we don’t have the same taste though)

GiveYourHeadAWobble · 01/01/2022 14:07

I’m not keen on the name Primrose. I associate it with Harold Shipman’s wife.

averythinline · 01/01/2022 14:10

Really like Adelaide, primrose is ok but not keen on prim....posy is cute reminds me of ballet shoes..

toddybell · 01/01/2022 15:59

Primrose is lovely, don't like your nn. Rose would be a better idea for a nn.

Adelaide I don't like. It's one of those clumpy names that should be reserved for... something that isn't a human.

Together, they do sound like the name of a ship as someone mentioned upthread.

Luredbyapomegranate · 01/01/2022 18:08

I hate Primrose - Prim is a terrible nn - who wants to be prim?! It’s a really drippy name all round.

How about Jasmine?

Adelaide is nice enough, though I think Adela is much nicer.

Luredbyapomegranate · 01/01/2022 18:11

… especially as your older ones have such lovely names - which will work well as adults - I’d be really pissed off to be landed with drippy Primrose… and Posy is as wet as Prim.

Whenigrowupiwanttobea · 01/01/2022 18:14

Primrose is Dr. Shipman's wife's name so that would be a bit off-putting for me But your baby your choice!
