Harriet or Cora?

Due DD2 in 2 months. We were quite settled on Harriet as her name and liked the options of nicknames (Hettie/Hattie/Ettie/Harrie). My DH has just suggested Cora as an alternative. I am torn as I think Cora is a beautiful name but gives less options. What are your thoughts?

Oh, Cora. Definitely Cora.

SquigglePigs · 30/12/2021 20:03

Cora is sweet but I prefer Harriet and it's nicknames (it was on our shortlist!).

Mwnci123 · 30/12/2021 20:04

I like both. Cora edges it for me.

SomethingNastyInTheBallPool · 30/12/2021 20:08

Harriet, definitely.

Cora brings to mind apple core /corer. To me, it's one of those names that's very slightly flashy - a bit like Lola - this is very much just personal taste though.

Harriet seems much more classic and has so many possible shortenings.

Both nice but Harriet of the two.

LizzieAnt · 30/12/2021 20:25

Love Cora.

I have a Harriet. Everyone tells me how much they love it. My only complaint is that every fecker spells it Harriett which I didn't even think was a thing!!!

Both are lovely. I think I prefer Cora. What is your first daughter called?

mummytooneprincess · 30/12/2021 21:03

I am also the proud mummy of a Harriet, known as Hattie and I really love it 💕

adventuresinmotherland · 30/12/2021 21:12

Thanks all. DD1 is Alice and I think both names go well with it.
I am liking that both names get positive responses. I think I prefer Harriet but might need to convince DH now!

Both lovely but I prefer Cora it's so elegant

Alsoden · 30/12/2021 21:44

Don't like Cora it just sounds like gravel or something. Maybe the association is hard core rubble stuff. Or a pigeon sound. Although I will admit it did sound lovely in that TV show from a few years ago that I forget the name of. Maybe because the character was American... So, Harriet which is like fast flying things :)

Ikeameatballs · 30/12/2021 21:45

Harriet, I love Hattie as a nickname.

CheshireCats · 30/12/2021 21:48

Cora. Much nicer than Harriet.

Spidey66 · 30/12/2021 21:52

Cora, though Harriet is ok and both go well with Alice.

WhoLetTheMouseOut · 30/12/2021 21:54

Harriet

Mumofgirls2017 · 30/12/2021 22:31

I love Cora. Harriet is ok but I’ve heard a lot of them.

yikesanotherbooboo · 30/12/2021 22:39

Just reread; NORA obvs

LyraVega · 30/12/2021 22:42

Harriet - for what it's worth i went to school with 2 Harriets and I know of 3 others since I've been an adult, and not a single one of them has gone by a nn, they've all been the full harriet which I think is lovely.

pilates · 30/12/2021 22:48

Definitely Harriet, dislike Cora.

Iloveacurry · 30/12/2021 22:53

Cora definitely!

AgathaMystery · 30/12/2021 22:55

Cora!

Philandbill · 30/12/2021 22:57

Cora, beautiful name. I think of the character Cora Munro in "Last of the Mohicans". The character's sister was actually called Alice too Smile

LizzieBet14 · 30/12/2021 23:04

Hattie is a lovely nickname - suits all ages.
