Harriet or Cora?

Due DD2 in 2 months. We were quite settled on Harriet as her name and liked the options of nicknames (Hettie/Hattie/Ettie/Harrie). My DH has just suggested Cora as an alternative. I am torn as I think Cora is a beautiful name but gives less options. What are your thoughts?

Cora

I have a great aunt Cora, she was a crossword fiend till her late 80s and listened religiously to the cricket on Radio 4.

I have a good friend Harriet nn Harry, who is creative director of a media company and teaches coding to teen girls at the weekends.

Both great names but different characters

PieMistee · 30/12/2021 23:18

Cora sounds rubbish in my accent (NW). Love Harriet.

finallychangedmyusername · 30/12/2021 23:25

I like both but prefer Harriet to go with Alice.

Harriet Cora sounds great.

RaoulDufysCat · 31/12/2021 00:00

I really like both. I do think Cora will date a bit more than Harriet so worth thinking about.

A relation born 1927 was called Cora. So elegant. I have a great aunt Harriet too.
The names go together so nicely you could use both, Cora Harriet?

LazyDoll · 31/12/2021 00:16

Love love love Cora.

CarolineGB · 31/12/2021 00:25

I've got a Harriett (yes, double 't' I blame the excellent painkillersGrin I'd been given after a 'c' section , we registered her the day after she was born in the hospital - turned out to be a great mistake as I think it looks balanced), I love it as it's unusual enough for her to be the only one in school (as far as we know!), she's 13 in a school of 2,000ish

Ginandplatonic · 31/12/2021 00:32

Both nice, but I would go with Harriet. Cora is more “of the moment” and will probably date, if that’s an issue.

caringcarer · 31/12/2021 01:03

Love Harriet, but which name sounds next with surname. Could do Harriet Cora.....

GiantHaystacks2021 · 31/12/2021 01:07

Neither - they are both old lady names.

PoshWatchShitShoes · 31/12/2021 03:25

I adore the name Cora. How pretty and elegant

LozMarieFielder · 31/12/2021 09:10

Both are so so nice but I would go with Cora.

Skyeheather · 31/12/2021 09:21

Cora - wasn't Harriet Mavis' budgie on Coronation Street?!

CheeseyHam · 31/12/2021 09:24

Hattie is a fab name.

I'm not Keen on Cora for two reason which are very specific to where I live! 1) It's the name of a knicker factory near me with a seconds shop. 2) I live kind of near ish to Corby which is not a very nice town and it just make me think of that.

Not very helpful of me, sorry.

BewareTheRedNosedDragon · 31/12/2021 09:29

Harriet has more substance imo. Though Cora is pretty.

Edenember · 31/12/2021 13:49

Harriet is lovely. So is Cora, but I prefer Harriet. Cora makes me think of apple corer. Not a bad association but I think that’s why I like it less.

BonnyEm · 31/12/2021 14:11

@October2020

I have a Harriet. Everyone tells me how much they love it. My only complaint is that every fecker spells it Harriett which I didn't even think was a thing!!!
My niece is Harriett.
Twinkleylight · 31/12/2021 14:54

Cora definitely, I've known 3 Harriet's and they've all been nasty, mean girls so I can't stand the name anymore.

annlee3817 · 31/12/2021 21:00

I'm a Cora Blush lol so obviously favour it, but for my own... We liked Harriet for a girl, Hattie as a nick name

DowntonCrabby · 31/12/2021 21:04

Cora

Piapea · 31/12/2021 21:49

Love Cora. Harriet is not really my style personally but is extremely popular in Australia.

BeKindBeYou · 01/01/2022 15:27

Cora! Beautiful!
