Is this a nice name?

None of my family (apart from DH) like this name at all but we love it so much.

We want to call our little boy Timothy.

He was great in Dune and I love the spelling this way. Feels a great way to modernise a classic name.

I may be wrong but I’m sure his parents are French and the spelling in the French way of spelling it.

Modern? It's the French form of Timothy so it's been around a few centuries

I can’t think of any good connotations:

The dog from The Famous Five - admittedly probably the best character in the series.

Tim Nice But Dim - his peers won’t know the character, but their parents will.

Timmy from Shaun The Sheep and Timmy Time - kids at school will definitely know this character, but he’s a good character, I guess.

Timmy from South Park - again, the kids shouldn’t know, but the parents will.

Also, I don’t know how Timotheé Chalet-whatsisface pronounces his name, but I always read it as Timotheeeeeay. I’m sure it’s a perfectly normal French spelling or something, but I can’t take it seriously.

I’d put it in the same category at Nigel, Giles, Rupert, and Hugh. They all wear red chinos, laugh too loudly at their own jokes and own badly behaved labradors called GInny and Lucy.

Timothy is a lovely name and it’s underused! I knew a Timothy growing up and I’ve only ever met one Timothy. It’s a cute name, and it can be shortened to Timmy when he’s little and maybe Tim when he’s older. I also associate it with a cartoon I watched as a kid called Timothy Goes To School.

Btw Th in French is pronounced as a T so the name is similar to the shampoo Timotei

I love it! One of my favourites. I would seriously have considered using it were it not for the fact we needed an international name.

I think objectively it’s a reasonably classic nice name but personally it’s not for me. I think it’s because it reminds me of ‘timid’ and seems quite wet, weak, bland name to me. But the most important thing is you like it as it’s a decent name for someone to have if that makes sense.

I don’t like it, I find it a bit wet (and all the Timothys I know are distinctly wet!)

But objectively there’s nothing wrong with it, it just comes down to personal taste.

I've never met a nasty Tim but on the whole I think it's it's bit weak sounding. Tom/Thomas has a stronger sound to me
