I like both of these names but the only people I see with them nowadays are teenagers or 20 year olds. Am I being silly?

Emily is gorgeous.

Amber is a bit meh.

Not really keen on it to be honest

Wilma55 · 19/12/2021 19:18

Amelie or Ember

HollyChristmas · 19/12/2021 19:19

Emily.

Classica · 19/12/2021 19:20

I'd rather be called Amber.

I think Emily is dreary. A dreary classic.

Pemba · 19/12/2021 19:22

Emily is a lovely classic. Amber is OK, a bit faddy though.

BlueShirtGirl · 19/12/2021 19:23

Amber reminds me of footballers wives! Love Emily, but I am very biased!

MrsMop1964 · 19/12/2021 19:32

Amber always makes me think of Forever Amber which was a racy novel in the 1940s..the first 'bonkbuster' (according to a review in the Observer!)

warnc007 · 19/12/2021 19:36

I have an 8 year old Amber so definitely prefer that name

Parkmama · 19/12/2021 19:37

Amber Smile

RosettaPebble · 19/12/2021 19:38

Not a fan of Emily. Like Amber. Prefer Ember.

Ikeameatballs · 19/12/2021 19:42

Amber.

I really like both, and until a few years ago I would have said Emily, but now for me Emily blends into Emelia/Amelia/Amelie.

littlemisslozza · 19/12/2021 19:45

@Ikeameatballs
I really like both, and until a few years ago I would have said Emily, but now for me Emily blends into Emelia/Amelia/Amelie.

I was coming on to say the same thing! My 10yo DS has several Emily/Amelie/Amelia's in his class and the names have almost merged into the same sound.
Amber is pretty and I don't think it's dated.

Luredbyapomegranate · 19/12/2021 20:06

I don’t like Amber so I’d say Emily!

But Amber more unusual for sure. However I think it’s more likely to sound dated, because it had a brief puff of popularity and then has been sinking, whereas while Emily has been fairly popular since the 70s, and has been a classic name for centuries.

Jasmine?? I don’t know why but it reminds me a bit of both.

Covidclaire · 19/12/2021 20:07

Amazed at all these people saying Amber. I’ve always seen it as a bit of a stripper name.

Emily is a lovely classic name in my view.

cptartapp · 19/12/2021 20:08

Emily, it's er, classier.

RustyBear · 19/12/2021 20:30

@SummaLuvin "For what it's worth I have never met a nice Amber."
Not worth a lot, you've obviously never met my daughter.

SummerLew · 19/12/2021 20:34

Amber feels dated to me but it does have a pleasant sound.
Emily is name perfection, so I'd definitely opt for that

Santahatesbraisedcabbage · 19/12/2021 20:38

Imo Amber gives a feisty edge but Emily is just wet...

santabetterwashhishands · 19/12/2021 20:40

My 1 year old granddaughter is called Emily x

RaoulDufysCat · 19/12/2021 20:41

Amber is quite dated to me. Emily is boring. Is there anything else you like?

MysticCT · 19/12/2021 20:46

I prefer Amber, I know two in their twenties and both are lovely neither work as strippers
It doesn't feel dated to me.

AnnaSW1 · 19/12/2021 20:48

Emily.

StrictlyAFemaleFemale · 19/12/2021 20:51

Ive never met an Amber Ive liked.
Ive never met an Emily I didnt.

Vursayles · 19/12/2021 20:52

Amber 1000%. Nothing wrong with Emily, it’s just very forgettable and far too popular.

CakesOfVersailles · 19/12/2021 20:52

I strongly prefer Emily.
