Robin for a boy. Randomly thought of it.

I saw it and thought it was really cute but I NEVER see anyone mention it or see it on any name lists. Opinions?

Other faves are Reuben, Henry, Freddie.

Love Robin. One of my favourites. I much prefer it to the other names on your list.

OwlBasket · 18/12/2021 19:30

It’s nice and certainly a name that can be used for a boy. Batman and Robin. Robin Hood. I’m sure there are more.

I really rather like it! Also good that it lends its self to the utterly conventional Rob, should DS prefer.

Luredbyapomegranate · 18/12/2021 19:30

I think it’s getting quite popular now? But maybe a little more for girls. I prefer it for a girl, but it’s nice and less overused than your other boys’ names.

Ronan, Robert and Ernest/Ernie, Arnold/Arnie might be less common alternatives.

Luredbyapomegranate · 18/12/2021 19:31

.. you could always go for Robert nn Robin also

sjxoxo · 18/12/2021 19:33

My dads called Robin, and my little boy due in Jan will have Robin as his middle name- I strongly suspect it is about to make a comeback as I’ve seen a couple of threads on mn with it included recently & it’s been out of popularity for so long, which means your timing is spot on and you’re ahead of the curve 😊 xo

Classica · 18/12/2021 22:06

I know a couple of little boys called Robin. I think it's okay. Very wholesome 1950s vibe.

DixieSun · 18/12/2021 22:12

Great for a Christmas baby

FreeBritnee · 18/12/2021 22:27

I have bad associations with it, so it’s a no from me.

Viviennemary · 18/12/2021 22:32

A no from me.

Stickytreacle · 18/12/2021 22:58

My grandfather was Robin, shortened from Robert. He also got called Bob.

Stomacharmeleon · 18/12/2021 23:47

My ds1' middle name is robin and told me he gets lots of compliments about it :) I love it!

SophieHatterPendragon · 18/12/2021 23:51

I went to a school with a Robin and DH works with two! I think it’s a lovely name and always think of it as a boys name although I know a few girls with it too

DramaAlpaca · 18/12/2021 23:53

It's mentioned on here quite a lot, and is often described as being 'wet'. For me, being considered 'cute' would put me off a name totally.

I'm not keen on it, tbh. I much prefer Robert as it's a stronger, more versatile name.

Of your other names, I love Henry but dislike the other two.

Fifthtimelucky · 18/12/2021 23:56

I like Robin and know 6 of them. I also like Freddie and Henry, but not Reuben.

ErrolTheDragon · 19/12/2021 00:02

I'm 60, Robin wasn't an uncommon name then - and only ever for boys. At some point Robyn for girls came in. I'm not sure if it's one of those names which having started to be used for girls then gets seen as too 'feminine' for a boy.(Hmm)

Kite22 · 19/12/2021 00:03

Not keen myself.
Can't imagine an awkward teen lad, or a burly 20 something having to introduce himself as a sweet little bird.

I like Robert though - you'd still get Rob from that?

Enough4me · 19/12/2021 00:06

Like it, and nn Rob is nice too.

gofg · 19/12/2021 00:08

I think it's a lovely name OP, and I prefer it for a boy's name.

Phoenix76 · 19/12/2021 00:10

I like it. Although it does make me think of Batman and Robin, Robin was a cool character 😉

BobMortimersTrout · 19/12/2021 00:11

I absolutely love it, but unfortunately DH is not a fan, so it didn't get anywhere near DS. His friend also loves it (no kids yet though) so I doubt I'll get a look in

ElinorOliphant · 19/12/2021 00:13

Lovely name,go for it!

Cheeseballer · 19/12/2021 00:14

There was a boy in my primary school called Robin, many years ago

flamedancer · 19/12/2021 00:14

My uncle is called Robin. I think it's a nice name

Deadringer · 19/12/2021 00:19

I like it. I know a 70 year old Robin, it really suits him.

Skeumorph · 19/12/2021 11:10

Hmm, not keen. Feels small and birdy and twee.
