Baby girl names shortlist?!

Hi everyone 👋

First baby due in less than 8 weeks and we cannot decide on a name! We prefer traditional, nothing too 'out there'. We thought we had decided on Amelia but that seems to have gone out of the window now as we've had too long to think about it!

Middle name is going to be Grace

Surname is similar to Heston (was advised against posting actual surname)

Potential names:
-Amelia Grace

  • Emilia Grace (I much prefer this but worry it will just get pronounced as Amelia)
  • Charlotte Grace
  • Erin Grace
  • Ivy Grace
  • Evie Grace
  • Edie Grace
  • Elsie Grace
  • Mabel Grace
  • Martha Grace

Any thoughts on these names please? Or any suggestions with a nice name to go with surname similar to Heston?

It seems we tend to prefer names beginning with a vowel 😂

I feel like I'm losing my mind looking at baby name lists now 😭

Amelia and Emilia go very nice with Grace “Heston”
I also really like Ivy, Evie and Erin from your list and they all go very well!
Not a fan of the rest, but each to their own :) good luck with the baby

Martha is my favourite I think.

Emelia will become amelia and it will drive you nuts trying to correct for the next 10 years. So dont go there.

Mostly focus and what you love as a first name. Not how it sounds with the middle name. You only use your kid's first name And the middle name only comes out when the kid is in trouble or some legal documents really 😅

Amelia Grace - Amelia is really really popular, I know loads so it doesn’t wow me as a name. Especially with Grace as a middle name

  • Emilia Grace (I much prefer this but worry it will just get pronounced as Amelia) - similar to Amelia, I also can’t stand Millie as a shortening
  • Charlotte Grace - I know so many grown up Charlottes!
  • Erin Grace - I like Erin
  • Ivy Grace / I don’t like Ivy, and again it’s popular
  • Evie Grace - boring, literally hundreds of them. She’ll be lost in the sea of Evie’s at school. Especially with Grace as a middle name.
  • Edie Grace - love Edie
  • Elsie Grace - don’t like Elsie, not a big fan of ‘vintage’ names personally
  • Mabel Grace - I quite like Mabel
  • Martha Grace - have never liked Martha, know quite a few though

I have to be honest Grace is just a filler middle name these days with Rose and May. It’s one of the default middle names for girls and to me is the Louise of the 80s or Jane. It’s massively overused.

I would wait until she's here and then decide.

The only ones I'm not keen on at all are Amelia / Emilia (too "mealy") and Edie. Just seems like half a name to me, sounds like it should be short for something better.

Martha is my fave...I would have used it for my DD but DP vetoed it.

I quite like Ivy. Other than Mabel, I know girls with all the other names.

I don't personally like the name but I think Charlotte Grace Heston flows beautifully.
Whereas I adore Mabel but I'm not feeling it with Grace. For some reason it reminds me of Marble Arch.
Evie Grace is okay but I don't like it personally
Edie Grace Really dislike this.
Elsie see Edie
I love Amelia Emilia and Erin Grace.
Martha Grace (see Charlotte)

Charlotte or Martha for me.
Eliza rather than Elsie?
I think you have any concerns about a name e.g. the Amelia / Emilia thing then you should strike it off your list.

Amelia and Emilia are too similar, but I quite like Emilia but not Amelia. Emily?

Erin - don't like it.
Ivy - don't like

Evie - ok as a nn for Eve. Dislike Eva, Ava and Evelyn

Edie - eating disorder or erectile dysfunction
Elsie - don't like
Mabel - don't like

Grace is a filler middle name

I also meant to add Lily to this list. This is my partners favourite but I'm not overly keen.

For those who like Erin, do you prefer Erin or Eryn?

@WhoppingBigBackside I had no idea Edie could mean that!! 😯 thats gone straight off the list!

I think Martha is the classiest and Mabel the coolest. Elsie and Edie just sound cute.

I don´t like Erin but hate Eryn.

Don't like the others, certainly would avoid anything ending in ie to join the billions of other cutesy names.

I like Erin as a first name (definitely this spelling). Maybe Mabel or Martha as a middle name, much stronger than Grace to be honest.

Your list is like reading my family tree - you've got my name, my sister's name, two of my great-aunt's names, and my great grandmother's name there!
I think they are are all lovely names, although I think I would go with Edith rather than Edie. Favourites are Erin Grace, Martha Grace, Elsie Grace.
Other suggestions - Amy Grace, Anna Grace, Sarah Grace.

What about Lydia or Lorna, both underused pretty names IMO.
