Second girl naming crisis!

Hi everyone,

Pregnant with DC2 and at this rate, if she’s a girl, she will be nameless 😫. DC1 is called Lilah, and literally the only other name we considered for her was Lyra. I still love Lyra but we can’t have two children called Lilah and Lyra can we?! It’s corny and I can imagine will evolve into a confusing nightmare.

We want a name that she won’t spend the rest of her life correcting, but also is relatively rare or unique.

We have a list of potentials but I still can’t see myself naming my own child any of these-

Frances (Frankie)
Caitlin (Cait)
Sappho (?)
Leonora (Leo)
Cassia (Cassie / Cass)

Anyone got any opinions on these / suggestions? If I’m honest I don’t love any of them! 😩

Thanks! Xx

You can’t use Sappho.
Lyra is too similar.
I like Frances a lot, but it does have a different feel to Lilah.
Leonora is OK but frilly.
Caitlin is OK.
I like Cassia.

DramaAlpaca · 21/10/2021 15:22

How about Leona or Leonie instead of Leonora? They go better with Lilah.

Twinmumandtoddler · 21/10/2021 15:32

Camille or Camilla (Cami or Milly)
Saffiyah

Thats a shame, Lyra is a gorgeous name, but yes, it really doesnt go with Lilah!

What About Amber, or Merryn? I like Leonora best out of your list

I like @momamama’s suggestions, especially Cora and Phoebe.

ForkedIt · 21/10/2021 16:16

I was recently in the exact same situation. DD2 didn’t have a name until 5 minutes before her big sister met her - big sister is only just 2 so we thought it might be confusing to introduce her to a nameless baby. It was quite good our hand was forced as otherwise she’d probably still be nameless. The name we chose was one we had mulled over but hadn’t chosen due to things like the meaning not being great, now we love it but, like I say, if we hadn’t just had to plump for something we probably wouldn’t have chosen it.

Basically, you won’t feel like your second born has a second rate name - which was my worry for most of the pregnancy!

IamnotwhouthinkIam · 21/10/2021 17:06

Cassia is gorgeous, and I like the subtle botanical link with Lilah (which could mean "Night" from Arabic or is possibly linked to Lilac). The others seem quite a different style (I especially wouldn't use Sappho!) and I'd personally avoid another L name. Cora is a nice suggestion and I like Helena too.

Viola? (purple/botanical link possibly like Lilah)
Iris? (as above)
Ianthe? (as above)
Jessamine? (botanical link)
Briony? (as above)
Selene/Selena ("night" link as means moon Goddess)
Gaia? (earth Goddess)
Xanthe?
Verity?
Serena?
Juno?
Thalia?

NCkitchen · 21/10/2021 17:21

Constance/Connie
Saffron/Saffy

WildCherryBlossom · 21/10/2021 17:25

Is there a reason for Sappho? Are you same-sex parents? Regardless, I don't really think it's suitable for a child's name. Would you call a child Hetero? Saffron or Sapphire or Safiya would much better.

fakeit2makeit · 21/10/2021 17:35

Lol, no we aren’t same sex parents. I know an adult Sappho who is super lovely. I understand the lesbian connotations but given that society is moving forward I don’t really see the problem. I figured that by the time she was in school people would be over the homophobia thing, but perhaps that’s naive. Also, I would bank on most kids and many adults having no idea who Sappho was!

Though given the hate it’s receiving on this thread I think it’s going in the bin. Maybe we’ll save it for a dog 🤣

I know what you mean by Frances having a different feel. I can’t put my finger on it. Frankie is what we would call her most of the time, which does have more of a Lilah vibe.
