Too Schitts Creek?
DP and I have been discussing Moira to add to the Shirley, Doris and Prunella list.

I rather love it, but will everyone immediately think of Schitts Creek. I will get very bored of constantly explaining she's not named after Moira Rose!

I think Moira’s a lovely name for the Bebe ☺️

Deadringer · 20/10/2021 10:04

My lovely mam is Moira, i wish i had given one of my dds her name, but i was young and stupid and looking for something 'trendy'.

Classica · 20/10/2021 10:06

Moira, Shirley, Doris and Prunella are the names on your short-list?

Yikes.

Tal45 · 20/10/2021 10:06

@user1493494961

Not particularly keen on Moira but think it's the nicest on your list (by far).
Agreed.
GiveMyHeadPeaceffs · 20/10/2021 10:08

There's a very naice village in Northern Ireland called Moira so that's the first thing I think of. I like it as a name.

Blubells · 20/10/2021 10:09

I like Moira. It doesn't remind me of anyone as I've not met one or seen a Moira on tv.

I also like Shirley.

KrispyKale · 20/10/2021 10:10

Moira also reminds me of the name Rhona, which I like too.

Can't believe I just read this! Must be getting old.

For what it's worth.

No to Moira. ( And the Schitts's Creek thing )
Big NO to Prunella and Doris.

Possibly, just possibly Shirley.

Each to their own of course.

Namechangedforthethousandthtim · 20/10/2021 11:50

Moira has a really negative feel for me but I can't work out why.

AtillatheHun · 20/10/2021 11:52

Even in The Pursuit of Love they talk about it being a ghastly name but she doesn’t care enough to argue it with the Kroesigs

Viviennemary · 20/10/2021 11:53

Its dire. Doris evdn worse. Why not think of some nicer names.

SirChenjins · 20/10/2021 11:54

Do you not like your daughter? Why on earth would you inflict any of those names on her?

JellyTotCat · 20/10/2021 11:55

I'd think of Moira Stewart

Balonzette · 20/10/2021 11:56

Oh. I've just re-read and realised you're the Doris/Shirley/Prunella poster.

Honestly... Calling your child Prunella or Doris is basically abusive 😂 Calling your child Shirley is not very kind either. I SUPPOSE Moira is the lesser evil, but still not great.

Do you only like these sort of... dated? Un-pretty? names? Is there NOTHING else on your list?

I'm sorry, I don't want to be cruel, but if you name a child Doris or Prunella (the very worst) then it's just going to be a funny story that anyone who meets your lovely baby is going to tell like... "I met a baby Prunella today. PRUNELLA! Can you believe it?" And i KNOW it sounds horrible but it's better to hear this before the baby is born then name the baby this.

Classica · 20/10/2021 11:58

I've been pondering these names and wondering which one I could cope with being called. I think it would have to be Shirley, but I'd still inwardly curse he who sired me and she who carried me every time I had to say my name aloud.

Bewildered2021 · 20/10/2021 12:02

This can’t be serious. Moira is dated but reasonable each to their own. Prunella and Doris are a joke...surely?

Bimblybomeyelash · 20/10/2021 12:05

I’m still not keen on the shortlist.

What about:

Ursula
Melissa
Jean

KirstenBlest · 20/10/2021 12:07

Dorcas is lovely

HeronLanyon · 20/10/2021 12:11

I LOVE Moira. Possibly influenced by knowing an absolutely amazing lovely inspirational woman with this name.

DockOTheBay · 20/10/2021 12:13

Its better than Shirley, Doris or Prunella so if those are the other options then go for Moira.

KirstenBlest · 20/10/2021 12:34

I like Doris and Prunella. Shirley is ok but a bit of a nan's name..

I've commented on a Raya or Ava - I dislike both, they sound so dull and samey

Moira makes me think of Moira Stuart

Bathshebahardy · 20/10/2021 12:41

Most Moira's of Moira Stuart's age group were named after Moira Shearer, the dancer and actress, most famous for the film The Red Shoes from 1948. I've only met one younger Moira and she was named after an aunt of that age group.

Namechangedforthethousandthtim · 20/10/2021 12:42

Dorcas is NOT lovely 😂 is it pronounced like Dork-uss? I normally love a biblical name, but Dorcas is right up there with Prunella and Doris in the horrible name list. How about Tabitha - the translation of Dorcas?

Maireas · 20/10/2021 12:43

Moira is a lovely name.
I've never seen either tv programme
