I have posted once before, but we are now just days away from our little one arriving & we have our ‘short list’ which we are hoping to get shorter & shorter for when the big day arrives. Any thoughts or opinions would be welcome!

Lottie, Tilly, Elsie, Ava, Daisy, Indie, Mae

Can you imagine a 35 year old woman called Lottie? Or Tillie? She won't be a baby forever.

Sexnotgender · 04/10/2021 19:31

Not really my taste but if I had to pick I’d go for Ava or Elsie.

CloseYourEyesAndSee · 04/10/2021 19:31

Lottie, - meh. Ok as short for charlotte.
Tilly, - meh.
Elsie, - no
Ava, - overused
Daisy, - like!
Indie, - no!!
Mae - noooooooo

DramaAlpaca · 04/10/2021 19:33

Well, you obviously like cutesy names and I don't... so there's only one there I like, and that's Ava.

EdmontinaDonsAutumnalHues · 04/10/2021 19:34

I like:

Charlotte (Lottie)

Ottilie (Tilly)

Ava

Margaret (Daisy) Star

Elsie seems a bit invisible.

Indie and Mae very throwaway. Perfunctory is the word I was looking for.

millzcrawf · 04/10/2021 19:34

Daisy or Elsie get my vote! Love both these names so much .. 🤍

kazza446 · 04/10/2021 19:36

Love Daisy and Elsie. Ava is a little common in my opinion!

SpongebobNoPants · 04/10/2021 19:37

@BrickingIt44 I totally agree.
My DD is Matilda which gets shortened to Tilly by her friends. Cute for now, but as an adult she’s got a real name to use too.

itsgettingwierd · 04/10/2021 19:40

Elsie Mae
Ava Mae
Daisy Mae

They'd be my choices from what youve chosen.

Or go for Charlotte Mae nn Lottie and she can choose another nn if she wishes at an older age.

BlueMoon23 · 04/10/2021 19:40

Daisy. Use Mae as a middle name

MyCatHatesWhiskas · 04/10/2021 19:42

Our of your names, I think Daisy is lovely and works well as a stand-alone name. That’s my favourite from your list, followed by Lottie.

I also like Ava but that’s super popular where I live and she may well be one of several Avas, Evas and Evies (and Edies) in a class. That may not bother you but worth being aware.

I also like Elsie and Lottie and think they work well as standalone names.

I’m not mad keen on Tilly, Indie or Mae personally; if I was to use Tilly or Indie, I’d probably go with Matilda or India as the full name.

CanICelebrate · 04/10/2021 19:42

I think you could use one of those names as a shortened version and it would still work, for example Charlotte could be Lottie.

As a stand alone name I think Ava as Daisy are the best.

Mae is the worst!

Rainbowqueeen · 04/10/2021 19:44

Daisy

orangeautumnleaves · 04/10/2021 19:45

I like Lottie as a shorted version of Charlotte.

Like Tilly as a short version of Matilda.

Like Ava.

Not crazy about the rest especially Elise, Daisy and Mae.

Indie is ok.

Balonzette · 05/10/2021 06:03

Elsie or Daisy

CakesOfVersailles · 05/10/2021 06:09

Ava is nice.

The others are mostly very cute nicknames. I quite like them but wouldn't use them as full names.

For example, Tilly I would use as a nickname for Matilda.

Lostmyway86 · 05/10/2021 06:13

I have a Lottie, I love it. It's short for Charlotte but she's only ever been called Lottie.

garlictwist · 05/10/2021 06:15

They all sound like twee little girl names to me. Mae is nice but I would spell it May. Tillie is awful.

KnobJockey · 05/10/2021 06:21

I have an Indie. Contrary to opinion on here, I think it's a fantastic name 😁 we get a lot of positive reactions to her name, it doesn't feel cutesy at all to me.

Ava is lovely, but there are a lot of them about at the minute.

ChipsNCurry · 05/10/2021 06:27

They all sound too cutesy for me- fine for a toddler but not for an adult woman.

Ava is the only one I think would suit an adult so I'd pick that one. Or as pps suggested, use the full name of some of the others like Matilda or India.

AnyaMoondial · 05/10/2021 06:44

Daisy and Ava are my favourites.

Beamur · 05/10/2021 06:53

They are all sweet, but I wouldn't use a nickname/contraction on its own, I would use the full name (Charlotte, Matilda) but call them the shortened version.
Mae and Ava are good middle names
Personally I like Ava best of all of your names and yes, it is popular.

trama · 05/10/2021 06:59

Remember you're naming an adult woman, not just a baby or toddler. I would go for Ava, or Charlotte which you can shorten to Lottie if you insist. Perhaps India nn Indie.

driftcompatible · 05/10/2021 07:08

@BlueMoon23

Daisy. Use Mae as a middle name
Mae as a middle name is so over used. I know so many children with Mae as a middle name it is actually annoying.

Abbie Mae
Ellie Mae
Evie Mae
Lilly Mae
Rosie Mae

Eugh. It's such a wet combination and screams lack of imagination and creativity.

Agelikeafinebottleofblacktower · 05/10/2021 07:12

I think people forget that a lot of adult women will have these names already. I know a grown up Lottie, Daisy, Maisie, Elsie, Ruby and at no point do I think of them as little girls, you are your name! If people meet you as an adult I don't understand why people would think of your name as childish.
