What are your thoughts on both the name Ludovic and the name Ludo? I know Ludo can be a short form of Ludovic, but I like it as a stand alone name too. What would you think of someone with either name? What would your expectations be? Thanks

Unusual spelling!
Ludvig more usually

RiotAtTheRodeo · 28/09/2021 23:02

My expectation of a Ludo would be someone quite moneyed and toffish. Ludo is a posh person's version of Arlo.

Ludovic I'd expect someone of maybe German origin.

HeadLikeAFuckinOrange · 28/09/2021 23:04

Makes me think of Labyrinth.

Shmithecat2 · 28/09/2021 23:04

I'd expect one of the parents to be of German descent.

KittiesInsane · 28/09/2021 23:08

Well, it was the name of one of my great uncles, so I tend to think ‘Victorian, possibly with side whiskers’.

I think his parents ran out of names after using up the standard Bill, Jim, Robert, George, Harold etc on his many brothers.

midsomermurderess · 28/09/2021 23:15

I like it. My reference is Ludovic Kennedy.

TigerBilly · 28/09/2021 23:22

My old boyfriend had a dog called Ludo. His sister thinks he was named after the Labrynth character but Ludo was actually named after a West Ham player 🤣

SwedishEdith · 28/09/2021 23:26

I like it and think Ludovic Kennedy as well. But wouldn't use it on its own.

catandbabymama · 28/09/2021 23:30

Ludo I think of the board game
Ludovic I really really like

WaltzingToWalsingham · 28/09/2021 23:40

Ludo means "I play" in Latin. I like it as a nickname, but I think your DS will probably appreciate the more dignified Ludovic when he's grown up, and have the option of Ludo for friends and family.

ILoveShula · 29/09/2021 00:08

I remember Ludovic Kennedy.

toastofthetown · 29/09/2021 07:16

They’re both fine. Not bad names, but I don’t love them. Ludo is very wearable, as it’s similar to the very popular Luca, with the trendy -o ending. It feels I’ve seen a huge upswing in posts about Ludo over past few months.

BewareTheBeardedDragon · 29/09/2021 07:20

I like Ludovic. Personally I always think you should give a child the longer name so that they have the choice when they're older to use either.

ofwarren · 29/09/2021 07:20

I instantly think of a dogs name unfortunately.
Probably because I don't know the name used any other way.

APerfectSky · 29/09/2021 07:20

@Shmithecat2

I'd expect one of the parents to be of German descent.
Ludovic is a French spelling. I would have thought Ludwig would be the German spelling?

I prefer Ludovic to Ludwig! Ludo is ok, but it does make me think of the game.

Rainbowqueeen · 29/09/2021 07:21

I really like it.
I’d think they were from a posh background

Geamhradh · 29/09/2021 07:29

I'll throw the Italian Ludovico into the mix.
I like it.
It's more common here as a girl's name Ludovica, which becomes Ludo, although the boy version tends not to get shortened for some reason.
It is considered a bit wannabe posh, rather than "classically" posh here.
I like it though.

celestebellman · 29/09/2021 07:31

Also know a dog called Ludo!

zen1 · 29/09/2021 07:34

I really like it and the spelling Ludovic.

Blubells · 29/09/2021 08:01

Ludovic I'd expect someone of maybe German origin.

No the German version is Ludwig.

DillonPanthersTexas · 29/09/2021 08:05

Sounds like something you hear being called out in Waitrose

lemonsyellow · 29/09/2021 08:24

I quite like Ludovic and Ludovic for short. I think Ludovic Kennedy too. It has quite posh vibes.

lemonsyellow · 29/09/2021 08:25

*Ludo for short.

Turnitofflikealightswitch · 29/09/2021 08:47

Thanks all! Yes, Ludovic is the French spelling. We have French heritage though we live in the UK. I don't think the comments about dogs worry me too much as our other option is felix, which is unarguably feline!
