pronunciation of Aylah

DH and i have both chosen Aylah for one of our top 5 names for DD but not sure whether to pronounce it as A-lah or Eye-lah. DD is due in November so got a bit of time to choose and would love for your opinion,

I'd probably say ai-lah rather than a-lah or eye-lah. Where's it from? It looks like a "yoo-neek" spelling

Surely if it’s one of your favourite names you know what it sounds like?!

I would pronounce it ‘Ai-lah’. But it’s absolutely awful.

I know an Isla and an Ayla - this looks like your trying to make a unique spelling of these but closest I would say is Ay-la

I would say Ay-lah, is it supposed to be pronounced like Allah? I don’t think I would go for that.

Don’t do it. DS has a name that is just 3 letters and is very, very easy to say but people still spell it incorrectly.

If you want it to be pronounced Eye-la, then spell it Isla.

Ayla is the female lead character in the earth’s children series. Not made up at all, some people are just bloody snobs about names and haven’t actually read any books.
I’d pronounce is Ai-lah.

Did you want Scottish Isla? Or Hebrew/Turkish Aylah?

They all mean different things but are pronounced vaguely the same.

Do not choose a name you can't pronounce! Choose one of the other 4 on your top 5 list.

Pick one of the other 4 names.
A name that you can pronounce. And your child doesn’t grow up constantly correcting everyone else.

Is this a dialect thing? Thinking of some Irish names that are pronounced very differently in different regions. Difficult to choose one if you are each more familiar with a different pronunciation.

I would guess Ay-lah (rhyme with day, say), but correcting to either of the pronunciations you've mentioned wouldn't be a big deal. I prefer Eye-lah, but if you're in the UK it will be spelled Isla obviously which may be frustrating.
