Caspar and Halloween

Cottonbee84 · 25/09/2021 14:02

I have finally found a name I love and one which we both agree on... Caspar.
However I'm due next month and there is a possibility he could arrive on halloween. Would it be cruel to still call him Caspar if he is born on halloween or am I over thinking this?!

Haha, I kind of love it for a Halloween baby.

If you're feeling unsure though maybe have a back up up your sleeve just in case.

QuestionEverythingBaby · 25/09/2021 14:12

That’s really cute for a Halloween baby 😍

DeeCeeCherry · 25/09/2021 14:17

🤣 Im sure he'll thank you when he's school-aged. Not.

Elisemum · 25/09/2021 15:27

Hmm no I wouldn’t.. cute for a little Halloween baby but will be a subject of endless jokes in school. I actually like Casper as a name but when I asked my DH he said: Jesus Christ like the ghost god no!

mobear · 25/09/2021 15:30

Is Caspar still popular? By the time DS reaches school age will anyone even remember it?

Theforest · 25/09/2021 15:31

I think kids think of Kasper Schmeichel these days. Only us oldies know Casper the ghost don't they? My kids wouldn't.

AllTheUsernamesAreAlreadyTaken · 25/09/2021 15:32

We’re in the same position and are going to go for it if it’s a boy.

PurpleFlower1983 · 25/09/2021 16:07

It’s perfect! Either that or Gomez!

MrsRobinsonsHandprints · 25/09/2021 16:09

So do I, but in a completely different way!

I think it's better than a Summer born in December

namechangedisgrace · 25/09/2021 16:11

I know someone Halloween born and his initials are BRAM (stoker) GrinGrinGrin

Cottonbee84 · 25/09/2021 16:16

Kasper Schmeichel was actually why the name was originally suggested by DP and DS.
I love the name but prefer the Caspar spelling as we are English. Plus the ghost is Casper.

Maybe I am worrying too much, I automatically think of the ghost but I am fairly old I guess Confused

At least Casper was friendly..! As you're using a different version of the name anyway I don't think it would occur to anyone other than us old gimmers

FelicityBeedle · 25/09/2021 16:23

I think it’s fine, most people don’t know your birthday anyway!

DotDotDotDotDot · 25/09/2021 19:28

Maybe I’m strange but I actually like the link between being born around Halloween and being named Caspar. If you love it I’d definitely go for it, it’s a lovely name. I really like Jasper recently too by the way. Good luck.

Heruka · 25/09/2021 19:32

I don’t want to be horrible but I think it’s a ridiculous name anytime, like naming baby Aladdin or simba after a cartoon character. So I suppose the Halloween thing doesn’t make that much worse.

Cotswoldmama · 25/09/2021 19:34

I know someone who has a son called Casper born on Halloween! I love the name but I don't think I could call my child Casper if they were born on Halloween any other day would be ok, even the day before or after!

toastofthetown · 25/09/2021 19:40

I actually think it's quite a fun link. Casper the ghost is surely quite a dated reference now. Combining the popularity of Casper, Caspar and Kasper, puts it at 155th most popular name, same as Maxwell adjust below Aidan, so far from ridiculous as a pp said. Looking that up, I noticed that there were about twice as many Caspers as Caspars. Personally, I also prefer the Caspar spelling, but not sure if that's important to you. It's probably a name that would need to be spelled out, and frequently misspelled regardless of whether you choose the most popular spelling.

RandomUsernameHere · 25/09/2021 19:40

I absolutely love that name. I'd say it's definitely more Christmassy than Halloween, I doubt any DC nowadays will know about the friendly ghost.

Oldnews · 25/09/2021 19:43

I don't think anyone under 30 would make the ghost association. Its a lovely name that existed long before the ghost cartoon.

squee123 · 25/09/2021 19:48

@Heruka Caspar is a biblical name. One of the three wise men. So not quite like naming your child Alladin. Unless there was an Alladin in the bible I've forgotten about.

Kids now will have know clue who Casper the Friendly Ghost is.

I say crack on Smile

Heruka · 25/09/2021 19:52

Yes sorry it was a bit brutal and responses to baby name threads aren’t always logical - it’s the truth of how I feel though. I remember posting a name on here years ago and it getting a pasting, never did it again!! A friend named their baby Casper and it’s just one of those on my personal cringe list.

Seasidemumma77 · 25/09/2021 19:56

Love the name Casper, I thought of its biblical connection rather than the film. Believe it means 'treasure', it was one of the names I considered for ds

OverTheWater · 25/09/2021 19:58

It's a tricky time of year isn't it . . . I'm due early November and thinking of Guy - but not if baby arrives on the 5th!

I agree with others i don't think many will make the link with the friendly ghost. I think it's a pretty specific connotation to people currently aged between about 30 and 35!

Thehouseofmarvels · 25/09/2021 20:01

I love this name... go for it !

If he’s born on the 5th, have Guy as a middle name!
