Caspar and Halloween

I have finally found a name I love and one which we both agree on... Caspar.
However I'm due next month and there is a possibility he could arrive on halloween. Would it be cruel to still call him Caspar if he is born on halloween or am I over thinking this?!

Caspar is a lovely name. Just unusual enough without being outré. Since he was one of the Biblical Magi fractionally before he was a cartoon ghost 🙄 I don't think you'll have too many people 'cringing' like a pp.

Because i know a little boy called Casper I would always think of the person, would never even think of the ghost, wouldn't cross my mind. I don't think Halloween birthday is an issue at all. I think you're overthinking

CaMePlaitPas · 25/09/2021 20:27

He was a friendly ghost so I think it's OK. Not like you're naming him Damian or Lucifer.

@toastofthetown

I actually think it's quite a fun link. Casper the ghost is surely quite a dated reference now. Combining the popularity of Casper, Caspar and Kasper, puts it at 155th most popular name, same as Maxwell adjust below Aidan, so far from ridiculous as a pp said. Looking that up, I noticed that there were about twice as many Caspers as Caspars. Personally, I also prefer the Caspar spelling, but not sure if that's important to you. It's probably a name that would need to be spelled out, and frequently misspelled regardless of whether you choose the most popular spelling.
Higher still if you include the Polish spelling Kacper.

@Heruka I asked for opinions and you were honest so I appreciate that, we all have different opinions on names and there are plenty that make me cringe! Luckily you seem to be in the minority so doubt most people will be thinking the same. My son has a pretty standard name in the top 40 and there are several different characters with his name. It's never ever been an issue or something that's even been mentioned. There are plenty of jasmine's, Auroras and Percys around. They are all names and the creators have to find names for their characters from somewhere.

@OverTheWater I think Guy is lovely and I'd say go for it even if he's born on the 5th. I wouldn't think anything of it!

I think I'm going to stick with it and hope he arrives before Halloween. If not then I'll figure it out when he's here xx

I don't think Casper the friendly ghost is still a thing. And anyway, he's a nice ghost.

Caspar is a lovely name.

I think they might be making a new Casper film.

I am in my mid twenties and my first thought is the ghost. It’s definitely known by people under 30.
