Absolute classic name and rarely used these days so it will be unique. It also transcends age and class.

@brightwave MARY ??? OMG no. Shock As a few other posters have said, too frumpy, old fashioned, Churchy, and in some quarters, it's slang for a woman's lady bits.

I am shocked at the amount of support for it. I would NEVER call a little baby girl MARY.

Elisemum · 21/09/2021 01:15

@brightwave im also shocked by the support here. It’s such an “old” and “smelly” name. While it’s absolutely ok on a granny, older auntie or some church lady why would anyone want to name a little baby Mary? It’s a weird one becouse the name itself is nice enough just never ever for a baby.

Yes I am also in the hard no camp. Every other granny and nun in Ireland is a Mary, so its very much an old Catholic name to me. And also your Mary is yer fanny, in certain circles. Grin

Love it! A friend called her daughter Mary and I think it'a beautiful name. Slightly unusual but not eccentric

Undertheoldlindentree · 21/09/2021 06:06

Sorry, I can see it's a classic but do find it extremely dull (I like a lot of other old names, just not this one)..

BonyN · 21/09/2021 06:26

I adore the name. It's my dd's middle name and if dh didn't hate it so much it would have been her actual name.

Definitely due a resurrection
