My grandma and mum were/are Mary, and it's DD's middle name.

I like it. Strong if unglamorous name.

Gorgeous. Have a couple where I teach (high school)

It's nice but I'd worry about "Virgin Mary" jokes at school particularly if a religious school

@mummatomason oh yes - I remember the ' Mary had a little lamb' jokes at school now you mention them! I used to get asked where my lamb was quite a bit. It clearly didn't scar me though! Every name comes with potential playground jokes I think? I don't remember ever hearing any 'virgin Mary' jokes - and I never even got to play Mary in the school nativity!

I’m not too keen on it, there was a little girl in the park called mary the other day and I do remember being surprised to hear it on a young girl (maybe 5 or 6)

I'd like to like it but don't - it doesn't sound strong or classic to me, just a bit ugly sounding.

Strangely, like a PP, I do quite like it if used together with another name, especially Mary Ann. Also agree Maria is a prettier alternative.

Yer exactly, kids will always find a way to tease about every name, just wanted to let the OP know about my experience personally with the name, and hairy mary come to me after i posted, used to drive me mad.
I had the opposite, i was always picked to be mary in the school play and i was mega shy so it was a nightmare .

But i do get alot of compliments now im older on my name. I think it suits all ages too

We very nearly used Maria for one of ours, which is another option. We liked Maria on its own and also because it had some NN potential, which Mary may not really.

It's a classical biblical name. I know an 11 year old Mary and it really suits her.

Prefer Maria, Marie, Marianne or Marianna.

Bit of a 'Jane' name but not unattractive.

It’s a great name - simple, elegant, pedigree and really refreshing these days.

I think it’s really lovely. But be aware that it means vulva in some parts of the country.

Hairy Mary, Virgin Mary- that’s what’s she would be called :( anyway this is a name absolutely reserved for grannies or some church obsessed people I think.. it’s ok name but there are hundredths of better names. I wouldn’t do it to a child , I’m sorry OP

It's my middle name and I absolutely hate it. It just seems so o!d fashioned. My first name is not much better either.
