I love this name for a boy. But on Google searching about the name, it seems its now very popular as a girls name!

My question is, is Aubrey a gender neutral name, or will it soon be seen as a girls name??

If so, what other names might I like??

Definitely a boy (but I was an art student so always makes me think of Aubrey Beardsley’s work: stunning fluid line, terribly-written porn to go along with some of his illustrations. Still love the name though)

ZaraCarmichaelshighheels · 15/09/2021 21:20

I automatically think of Boyce from Only Fools and Horses but that’s my generation, apart from that it sounds bit staid to my ears.

PricklesTheHedgehog · 15/09/2021 21:59

I like it.

wombforanotherone · 15/09/2021 22:06

Love it for a boy

RiotAtTheRodeo · 15/09/2021 23:04

It's going/gone the way of Shirley.

BlueberrySugar · 15/09/2021 23:23

I love Aubrey but always associated the name with a girls name.

Rogue1001 · 15/09/2021 23:25

Life is sweet. Mike leigh

I think it will depend on who you know with that name whether you associate it with boy or girl. I know a baby girl called Torryn, never heard the name before and then randomly met 2 separate families with boys called Torryn which obviously in my head had ‘girls’ names. Also know lots of female Willows and then met a boy Willow. Had I met them the other way round I probably would think both were boys names lol

Gender neutral but if I were to use it I'd use it on a son.

Notsofunnynow · 16/09/2021 03:13

Thanks all, I do really love the name. But just wondering I guess, if there was a girl in his class at school with same name, would that be weird or difficult for him? I don't know anyone called Aubrey!

One of the girls from teen mom named her daughter Aubrey. She’s now 10 and so a lot of American mums who watched that show have named their girls Aubrey too. It’s becoming v popular.

I think because it is still unisex then it should be okay at school. Children will probably accept it in their stride. If you called him Laura or Sophie that would be different.
IllegibleSquiggles · 16/09/2021 06:52

@YouWereGr8InLittleMenstruators

It's a male name. I can't help but to think that any girls named Aubrey have parents who were thinking of Audrey.
This. I know one male Aubrey who’s 13 and cool.
bloominglovelyorange · 16/09/2021 07:52

Never met a baby Aubrey (still a pretty rare name) but would assume it was a little boy

Spidey66 · 16/09/2021 07:57

I think its a boys name, but I don't like it, sorry.

BunnytheFriendlyDragon · 16/09/2021 07:57

I came across it for a female

I liked it for our dd bit dh didn't like it

JeSuisPrest · 16/09/2021 08:05

It is unisex, but I always lean more towards it being a girls name because of the Bread song "Aubrey Was Her Name".

This!

I think one of the Teen Mom babies (a girl) was called Aubrey.

Yourheartwillleadyouhome · 16/09/2021 08:23

I like it, it's a good name. I'd use it for a boy.

MissBridgetJones · 16/09/2021 11:04

I know a little girl called Aubrey

likearoomwithoutaroof · 16/09/2021 11:12

I know it as a male name but because I have a very old male relative (80+) who is called that.

It's not to my taste is all I'll say!!

RevolvingPivot · 16/09/2021 11:15

I know a girl with the name. I liked it. I'd never heard of it being a boy / mans name though.

EveryFlightBeginsWithAFall · 16/09/2021 11:16

I used to know a few older men named Aubrey , all over 80

Now there's loads of little girl Aubrey, including my granddaughter.

I wouldn't call a boy Aubrey these days when there's so many girls with the name

User147893 · 16/09/2021 11:19

I like Aubrey. I know it is a boys name.
I think of it as quite traditional, maybe a bit literary.
I don't think it is an easy name to pull off these days surrounded by Jack and Harrys though.

Frankley · 16/09/2021 11:28

A boy's name. I think it's very nice.
