What are your thoughts on Blanche?

Old lady name.

Some (most) people have never watched Corrie in their life.

Pfft I thought of Corrie too but it's irrelevant. Blanche is a lovely name.

A Streetcar Named Desire closely followed by leached vegetables and Deirdre’s mum. Also, to go white.
I think there are much nicer granny chic names.

My associations are France then Tennessee Williams. A creaky Manchester soap does’t figure.

As PP Corries and Gg Blance but for some reason my brain is saying blamanche

Omg I love it!!

I studied names as part of my English language degree. Apparently girls names are longer or softer sounding so they tend to roll - Sarah, Laura, Elizabeth. Boys seem to have shorter sharper names John, Jack, David etc.
I think names like Blanche although female lend themselves to the more traditional male sounding names, which is why they don't appeal to some people but they can't explain why

Very harsh-sounding. As for "atmosphere" it's a bit musty, shabby, living out the fag-end of one's life in a dark bedsit.

If you like names that mean white, there's Bianca, Jennifer, Guinevere, Gwendolyn, Gwyneth, Bronwen, Whitney.

It makes me think of recipes online and when I see the word blanch I have to find another recipe because I don't know what it means.
