My friends toddler has that name and it suits him. He's so cute. If you love it then go for it x

Frazzled2207 · 03/09/2021 19:21

I’m from Chester so it sounds odd to me

allofthecheese · 03/09/2021 19:21

My daughter has a place name. Some people were a knob about it at first but she’s 9 now and I still love her name.

I think Chester is a great name, I also love Lincoln

cheesemarmitepanini · 03/09/2021 19:41

Weird that people were knobs about it! We take names from all sorts of places; locations, birds, virtues, plants, etc etc

It's a dogs name

SailYourShips · 03/09/2021 19:45

I love Shitterton. It's a place in Devon and such a unique name for a boy and so easily shortened to a phrase that could be applied to many names.

Stressybetty · 03/09/2021 19:45

The American bloke in Four Weddings and a Funeral was called Chester I think. The Texan that Scarlett married.

Actually, it's in Dorset. Another great name.

SailYourShips · 03/09/2021 19:48

I did hear someone wanted a literary name for her boy and was considering Brick. Thick as a brick and brick shithouse didn't seem to deter her. The only thing that stopped it happening was that someone in her circle beat her to it.

SailYourShips · 03/09/2021 19:51

So, in the light of those Chester isn't too bad!

cheesemarmitepanini · 03/09/2021 19:54

Are you ok Sail, you're very invested in my name thread?

I find it strange that we live in a world where the two most popular names come from a small, green, oval fruit, but 'Chester' raises eyebrows.

I like Chester but agree that Chester George doesn't work that well.

Possible alternatives to Chester that I think go well with Toby are:

Rupert
Otis
Rufus
Magnus

Rupert George, Otis George, Rufus George and Magnus George all flow well.

Or else Chester Jude, Chester Luke, Chester Jake, Chester Hugh, Chester Joel for some other one syllable options.

Givemethatknife · 03/09/2021 22:48

For some reason I think of it as a Teddy Bear’s name, is there a Chester the bear?? I probably prefer it for a stuffed toy, TBH.

beans1992 · 05/09/2021 15:18

I love the name Chester. It’s a little different but not silly. Go for it.

Hi OP. Appreciate that this thread is really old now, but so curious to know if you went with Chester?
It is our No. 1 boys name and have always loved it, was surprised by all the negativity!

KayEmAy · 10/07/2023 22:42

Chester is a bunny in my brain :)

DogInATent · 10/07/2023 22:55

Chester George.
Cheddar Gorge?
No, I said Chester George.

Nothing wrong with either name on their own. But it doesn't trip off the tongue smoothly as a combination.

I'm not the OP but called my beautiful baby boy Chester last year. Hadn't seen this thread at the time, and am a bit surprised with the negativity around the name myself, but even if I had seen it, it wouldn't have changed my mind. I loved it then and still do now. IRL, the vast majority of reactions to the name have been very positive. We have had the odd comment about it being 'different' (with a face being pulled), but it really doesn't bother us. It's a great name and really suits him. No regrets whatsoever.

I love it ! Chester George ❤️
